Purchased new as a .416 Remington magnum Sako AV Hunter and recently converted to .458 Lott.

A 1-in-14" twist Heym barrel 24" in length was installed. No magazine modifications needed.

Loads chronographed at the range today -

- 350gr Speer Mag Tip and 73.0gr RL7 - 2575 fps MV.

- 500gr Hornady Interlock RN and 70.0gr RL15 - 1990 fps MV.

- 300gr Remington HP and 34.0gr SR4759 with dacron fill - 1680 fps MV.

3 shot group at 100 meters, 500gr Hornady -

The scope is a Leupold 4x compact (actual magnification is 3.6x and has a rather heavy German #4 reticle, not ideal for precision shooting). Very pleased with the conversion, it's an accurate .458 Lott Smiler -

Thanks! Considering to upgrade the optics on this rifle. A variable with a wide range would be nice, looking at a Minox 1.5x - 8x. Good reviews on the optical quality, said to be excellent (except I'm concerned about durability, I've broken a few variable power scopes on my heavy kickers over the years).

The rifle looks nice. So does the group.

I have a 4X fixed Leupold w/duplex reticle on my HK91. The reticle seems to subtend nearly 1 full minute of angle. Although one of the groups I shot was around 3/4", most were slightly over 1". I was merely covering the red dot on the target with the reticle and hoping for the best.

How does one shoot sub-minute groups with a 4X scope?

Thanks! I like this rifle much more as a .458 Lott. I had a look around for a variable power scope with a wide magnification range and ample eye relief. Minox has a 1.5x8 that looks like a possibility.

However, I have a couple of Nikon Omega 3x9 scopes that have 5+" of eye relief even when set a 9x, and decided to mount one on this rifle. Great for long range shooting, the optical quality is very good for a $300 scope. I hope it can withstand the recoil - so far so good. My hunting load is the 350gr TSX at 2600fps. Now it's easy to place shots at 300 yards. Smiler

50 meters is about the maximum range that I can use iron sights accurately - no plans to install these. Big Grin
