Gentlemen

I will do the double vs. Bolt test after roe buck season.
My friend has a Krieghoff 470 NE and I will shoot the .500 Jeffery. I hope we can shoot at the same time, for visual comparison.
The Krieghoff does NOT have ejector and a strange safety system Wink. But that is the only double I have handy.
I might be cocky and load my Heym with 5 cartridges. Big Grin
This will be aimed shots on water jugs.

Chers,

André

I had to revisit this string and yes Pierre I do intend to take this rifle to Africa maybe for Elephant or Lioness. This spring I took my Leopard with a 338WM with TH stock and all worked well - of course it was one and done and as mentioned I took my Buffalo with a 375 H&H with TH stock. Now for RIP - this will please you to no end - I am in the process of putting togeather a 470 Capstick with Oh yea you guessed it a wonderful TH stock. Big Grin dancing thumb

Since you revisited this I'll jump back on topic.

I like synthetic and laminate stocks but I've never tried a thumbhole stock. I have a left handed Choate Varminter stock in my gunroom that is going on a 22.250 varminter but I haven't put it together yet.

One question:

How do you get to the safety when you are in position to fire?

How do

Fjold, since you ask I will have to get the Queen down and go thru the excersise slowly and then I can tell you. I only know last spring when I got my Leopard (with dogs) I was having a hard time finding the cat in the tree (heavy foliage), but Peter (dog handler) said "I knew when you saw him as your thumb came up and safe off and trigger squeezed - dead cat". I have never thought about taking the safe off.

I went home and got out the 338WM with TH stock. I discovered something very interesting. First what I said about Peter in the above post I quoted what he said but he was wrong in his comment. You do things with out thinking and when I tried to take my thumb to knock off the safety it didn't work. So I just positioned my self on a set of sticks and pretended to be shooting at game. Well guess what without thinking about it my trigger finger came up and knocked the safety off and continued down to the triger and squeezed. I had not thought about the process it just happens now out of years of use of the thumbhole. I then got out a Ruger #1 with a tang safety and yes my thumb pushed the safety off. I guess when you have to think about these things while in the heat of the monent this is when the shit can hit the fan. I guess it is being familar with the rifle and using it over and over. WOW
