Boyd's JRS Stock
I am looking to re-stock my Winchester Model 70 Classic SS 375 H&H. I'd like a stock with a cheek piece, either in Walnut or possibly a laminate. Has anybody used the Boyd stocks, and if so, how is the fit/finish on the "Factory Finish"(F) and how well do they handle the recoil? The price is attractive.

I have used several of this style but not in the prefinished. Just the drop in that I finished myself. I have done 1 375 and 2 338's with absolutely no problems. The drop-in was truly that on 2 and only required 15mins on the other. Very happy with the results in both looks AND performance.

I put one of their lams on a 416 Taylor--for the money it was great. Nothing fancy but a good solid working stock and the geometry is actually pretty good. A little heavy but most lams are...

I recently purchased a JRS Finished stock for a 7x57 Mauser 98 project. At first it seemed fine but after beginning work I noticed that the barrel channel was cut slightly off center. Needless to say, my barrel is definitely free floated! Some work was needed around the action and bedding was definitely required. In hindsight, I should have probably called Boyds and discussed the problem.

My smith said he has had similar experiences with the JRS stocks but has also had others that were almost perfect fits and required minimal work. I guess it depends on who was running the duplicating machine at Boyds that day.

I liked the overall result and would probably use them again for a similar project. As you say, the price is attractive and exterior finish was very good.

I used one on my 550 express mule, and then reshaped (bondo'ed) it to suit me for the final stock.

Boyd's has always backed up any problems that I have ever had with them....

yeah they have screw ups that slip thru QControl but, at the price they offer the product and the way they make it right, I have no compliants at all...

I have finished about 15 of the JRS stocks for my use or for friends and family and they all love them....

I do know on the Mausers, that based on the variations in Mausers, they usually require more work than about any other manufacturer....

I also ordered a couple of barrel channel tools out of them long ago and they have helped take care of minor problems....

Right now, I am working on a JRS stock that will go on a Ruger VT.... I wanted a stock that was more condusive to being able to be moved from point to point, when everyone else wants a bigger varmint stock, I go slimmer.... typical seafire!

I have used several.
I have used several of the drop-in and prefisnished, walnut and laminate. Only had one problem, with a laminate that had the action cut too large, They handled it professionally and quickly.
One split at the tang on a 416 Taylor but a little glue a little relief of the tang, some bedding and a crossbolt and it is still shooting very well. I do wish they would offer an inexpensive model with simple checkering.
