Had a good time at the range today.
Most of my guns are bigger and therefore cost more to shoot.
We all know that cast is the way to go to cut cost.
So I worked up load's for all my bigger guns and I must say it's great
I was hoping for a load that would work in both of my 375's
but that was not to be.
The Winch. likes 4198 and the Ruger XMP.
The 416 R does well with XMP and both the 375 and 416 can be driven to +/- 2000 ft/sec
The 375's shoot best @1650 ft/sec (1"@100y 5 shots)
The 416 one load @ 1600 for 1 1/4" and one load @2000 ft/sec for 2" @100y (400 gr bullet)
My 500AS 3/4"@ 100y but only at +/-1500 ft/sec any faster and I get piles of lead (550 gr bullet,no Gas C)
May I need slower powder,I'll have to talk to the cast boys about that.
Anyway went to the range set up my steel plates at 150 y
Had 50 rnd's ea and started banging away.
The nice thing besides it not putting you into the poorhouse you can just keep on shooting, lead giving less friction the barrel won't heat up.
The 375's and the slower load for the 416 are easy to shoot the 2000 ft 416 and the 500 you won't shoot 50 in a row,but it's great fun.
This way I can shoot them insted of looking at them.

Regards Martin

FWIW - I saw a month or so ago that Midway had Hornady 50 cal gas checks listed now.
