I was checking some wholesalers websites and they are showing having the 798 in 30-06, 243 and 270 in stock. Also the 799 in 222, 223 and 22-250. No big stuff yet but I guess that is a start. That is assuming they actually have them not that websites are ever wrong.

465dbk,

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm tracking these, too.

I'd dearly love to hear about the guy that buys a 22-250 in a M-799. I truly don't think it exists!

Yea, I wondered about that too, but I checked again on the Remington web site, and they show the 22-250 as one of the offerings in the 799. As I remember, the old Charles Daily site showed the same. I thought it would be a tight fit in that small action.

Over the years I have thought the 7.62x39 would be a fun cartridge to shoot in that small rifle.

duikerman,

They did exist at one time - I've got one! In Left-Handed as an exotic too!

Oh Ya, those Zastava actions (probably, if they're like mine) fill just about every bit of available space in that action you can imagine.

They were (and I'm sure due to Marketing & the American penchant for this cartrtidge, still are) available in .22/250. I made the mistake of buying one, a big mistake, pencil thin barrel and bad (bedding=worse) stock made for super bad accuracy @ 2.5" groups at 100 meters with about every bullet/powder/OAL load you can imagine. It just didn't shoot like we'd (the more demanding crowd) would have expected.

Sounds like a cool "Walking" light varmint rifle. Thought I'd buy into the concept; except it turned out to be a bad dream. Stick to the .222's & .223's unless they've managed to better this concept.

Cheers,

While I never had a 22-250 in the mini I have heard a lot of negative and problems. I did have a 223 MKX and it was a dream of a walking varmint rifle.

As usual just my $.02

The local Gander Mountain had both a 798 and a 799 today, in 30-06 and .223.

The metal and polishing is about the same as the last of the high polished Daly's.

The wood is pathetic. The finish is as rough as a cob, the wood to metal fit is the worst I've ever seen on a production centerfire. There was a gap on the right side of the receiver on the 798 no less than .150", about the same gap on the front of the triggerguard on the 799. $545 and $535 respectively. The inletting for the barrel channel doesn't match the barrel contour at all. The receiver inletting was long on both rifles about .150" as well.

Pathetic.

That kind of makes me mad. Remington is supposedly doing the stocks here, if I remember right. The Charles Daly versions (I have a couple) have decent inletting.
