I stumbled upon a very interesting article by Roy Vincent on the .450 A the other day, which I thought some of you guys may enjoy. I am not sure how to insert links, etc, but it can be found online at www.africanoutfitter.com/backissues (June/July issue 2007). Roy also lists a few loads with Somchem powders, which is especially useful for African shooters who do not rely on imported powders. I have looked for refences to Somchem powders and this cartridge before, but never got anywhere as somchem only list the win mag, Lott and Weatherby in this cal in their reloading data.

I've built two .450 Ackleys and have always liked the cartridge. Unlike the Lott it will deliver 2400fps and as the article says is excellent with cast bullets too. My .450 Ackley built on a pre war M70 action with kreiger barrel is one of the smoothest feeding and accurate big game guns I ever made. Unfortunately, fireforming turns many people off, so with the lack of properly headstamped ammo( except for a-square and maybe some bell stuff) its just about as dead as the dodo.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

I have owned or shot alot the 450 Ackley, 460 GA and 450 Dakota, and I really prefer the Ackley. 2400 fps with Norma and 25 inch barrel winchester pre 64. Andy

I haven't doubled checked, but I thought that the last time I was in their website Quality Cartridge showed the brass.
