Still looking for a great semi custom builder. To rebuild a Ruger Tang Safety from 416 Taylor to 416 Ruger. Please don't reccomend Randy Selby since he originally did a poor job buiding the 416 Taylor. "shoot quick but take your time"

You're talking about nothing more than a rechamber and setting the shoulder back... maybe... to clean up the belt area...ANY gunsmith can do that. I thought about doing it to my Ruger Tang 416 Taylor but there isn't enough gain in any area to pay for the reamer. Luck

Thanks for the reply FOOBAR. It this case a new barrel is probably in order since the first one was not accurate. I'm looking for someone to take the whole project and guarantee results. "shoot quick but take your time"

What kind of guarantee do you want. velocity is like a new car, always losing value. BC is like diamonds, holding value forever.

Beides a fully functional rifle that meets my specifications: Good fit and finish and MOA( 1 inch or less) accuracy. "shoot quick but take your time"

FWIT...In your case I WOULDN'T spend any extra money on a Ruger Tang receiver...even though the receiver is an excellent one it is OBSOLETE as far as repair parts go...Ruger has a few limited available parts and some that are interchangeable and a few other parts specialists have supplies, but they know the value and charge MONEY. You're talking about an amount of money that would be better spent on a more up to date action. Besides to get the best out of the Taylor OR the Ruger case you really need a full 3.5 plus inch mag length. My Taylor stated out as an A&B barrel from Midway for a Savage LA. I put it on a 375 H&H length magazine Savage but couldn't get the feedin right...it kept stovepiping or hanging up on the ramp...Savage mags are NOT the best to work with sometimes. I then rethreaded and made a new nut and put it on the Tang Ruger. In doing so I lost the ability to use the longer Barnes and Swift bullets...I had to shorten the COAL to 3.28" and use stubbier bullets. If you have a Selby built rifle and are unhappy with it, I would send it back to him with a full explaination of what is going on and give him a chance to fix it. You mentioned accuracy...that could be in the rifle, the shooter OR the ammo construction. My Taylor didn't like many powders...until I started using RL-15 and it was also cranky about the seating deapth of BOTH 350 Speers and 400 gr bullets. Luck

FOOBAR, Probably good advice re tang saftey action, but I sure do love it in the field. As to Selby we've already gone around the horn. Plain and simple he did a poor job overall, and didn't live up to his comittments. Anyone that deals with him gets what they deserve. Plus on top of it all he's an arrogant @#$&**. studdog. I don't know the man so I won't comment on his work, I just like to give any gunsmith the chance to "fix" any problems before going elsewhere, but I do know people and how they act sometimes. I have nothing against Rugers, been shooting them for 45 odd years, they have always performed...I have two Tang's left, a 416 Taylor and my latest 510 Makatak, and two SA's, one being a switch barrel. If I were a lot younger I would have one or two of the newest Ruger DG action shooters. The Tang isn't totally obsolete, you can still find small parts that interchange and the tang safety can cause problems...I just spent half a day swapping around pieces and parts to get my 510 to work positively. If this were a DG rifle I would get rid of that safety quickly and put on a wing safety ala Mauser or Ruger MKII...it really doesn't take a whole lot to put the OEM safety out of commission. There are a ton of good rifle builders...McGowen is one...I've used several of his barrels and have no complaint...ER Shaw the same, the gunrags are full and so is the net. As always you pays you money and takes your chances...there are NO guarantees in this world. Luck

In the world of gunbuilders, When a man guarantees MOA accuracy he should stand behind that guarantee and do whatever it takes to live up to it. This just my opinion but maybe I'm wrong. "shoot quick but take your time"
