I don't know which is worse, that an article in Shooting Times by Dick Metcalf refers to the crossbolt safety on the new Marlin .41 Rem Mag as "traditional", that Dick has forgotten that it isn't traditional, or that I'm so darn old that I remember back when it wasn't traditional. I hate those darn crossbolt safeties but I know they'll never go back to producing guns without them. [Roll Eyes]

For those who don't give a darn, or have that nifty bolt that negates and bypasses the crossbolt, it appears that Marlin will be producing a M1894 .41 Mag rifle, with pistol grip, checkering and thin rubber pad.

I'd like to mention, for the record, that I did not buy this magazine but found it on a desk at work, purchased by some pilgrim who thought it was full of good stuff... [Wink]

I must also note that my 16" barrel for my Contender outshoots this rifle... It does 1.5" at 100 while this gun "produced superb accuracy, averaging less than 2.5 inches overall at 100 yards..." And that was scoped as well!

You can get rid of that stupid safety with the replacement kit that you can find on Jim Taylor's Site, The Sixgunner. Get a message to him about the article and he will give you specifics. I think I threw everything out after completion of the replacement part. [Cool] [Roll Eyes] [Razz]

What an imbecile. How about that "traditional" 36x target scope on a Sharps rifle, too!

Sometimes, you just have to laugh.

I didn't mind that my Marlin 1895 in .45-70 would have this cross-bolt saftey feature.
Some of my other rifles and shotguns have this, and it was a feature I wanted to keep the operational familiarity between guns the same.
Similarly, my Beretta pistols and Remington bolt-actions have an 'on or off' two position safety.
This is something that figured heavily into my choices in firearms.
It fit into my plans perfectly.

I do have two Winchester 94's in .30-30 that are top-eject and don't have the 'flavor of the month' safety, as Winchester seems to have gone to.
Regardless of your favorite brand of gun, and even though I have (gasp! [Eek!] ) Remingtons!, I had to make the disclaimer that I have two Winchesters without the dreaded cross-bolt safety! [Big Grin]
