Gentlemen, I have just ordered a barreled action from American Hunting Rifles, caliber 585 AHR. This will be my first REAL big bore. Any recommendations for someone to stock it? Soon I will be a real big bore shooter!

I did not know the 585 ahr was a reality. Can you post the dimensions of the cartridge for us? I am especially interested in overall length and rim diameter. Thanks.

POSeur,

I suggest you park the muzzle of your imaginary rifle in your ass and squeeze off a round. Or two.

If this rifle is for real, which I doubt it is, just like I doubted that your sorry ass would ever leave these hallowed halls of knowledge. I'll be a nice guy and make a recomendation to you. Try Elk Ridge, they can be found at www.gunstocks.biz. They've done some nice work for me in the past and their prices aren't unreasonable. When you finish this "rifle", do post a picture for us all to behold. Oh, and this time make it one of your own you thieving piece of crap. Have a nice day. [Big Grin]

Robgunbuilder,
Sure I would love to get some load data for the 585 AHR from you, thanks!

Andy,
Thank you for the stock maker recommendation. I will look into it. Have they stocked any big bores for you? I suspect it will take the better part of a year to get this rifle all together, but I will post pictures when it is done.

George S,
I love you too!

500grains,

I did not see your post before, sorry. The maximum cartridge overall length is 3.75". I was told that with 750 gr Woodleigh bullets the overall length would be ~ 3.65".

The brass maximum length is 2.900"

The rim diameter is 0.640"

The rim thickness is 0.062"

Base diameter is 0.660"

Shoulder diameter is 0.650"

Shoulder angle is 25 degrees.

Case capacity is 184 grains of water.

That is what I was told, and I hope it answered your question.

Axel

What the hell are you asking us for, AXEL? Remember....YOU are the genius and everyone else here is a pretender/idiot?

Shall we do a little cut and paste exercise from all the times you've told everyone here how stupid they are? [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

This time why don't you figure everything out on your own...until then please spare us your bullshit.

You are such a TOTAL jerk-off. [Mad]

The only plunge you need to take is into the toilet.

That's just a regular 585 nyati lengthened by 0.100. I see no advantage of it over the regular 585. It still is a rebated rim design by the way. No offense, but I do not see any reason to not go with the regular 585 ny.

Good luck.

500grains,
What you are saying is undoubtedly true, but who makes an off the shelf 585 Nyati? Besides, AHR has an excellent reputation with the building of these monsters.

Pecos45, I stated engineering knowledge not gunsmith knowledge. I did get into a discussion on machining, which by the way is universal not constrained only to guns.

Why I'm even responding I still don't know but...
No they have not stocked any big bores for me, just two mausers, one in 35 Whelen, and one in 7x57. Judging from the feedback on them though, I seem to be the exception to the rule. Almost everyone else on who has dealt with them was left with a bad taste in their mouth. Not unlike when I finish reading your posts. Happy hunting.

500grains, evidently you are correct. I was told today that the 585 AHR is not ready for production. Therefore, I have decided to build a 585 Nyati. I will use a CZ550 action. Buying a complete rifle this weekend. I will do the work myself.

Axel,
I would suggest you start with a 416 rigby, and start with that, loading it hotter and hotter, until you find pressure sign, and then stop. It will take ~2 months for a pacnor barrel to arrive.

Best of luck with it... tell us what you are planning to do to add weight and get started on it?

So you took the plunge ? DAMN ! Looks like you got it wrong, next time get yourself a fair sized anvil, tie it off to your waist, a short length of rope will do, hold it up close to your chest, check the water is deep enough for total submersion (sp), and jump ! [Big Grin]
