Can anyone tell me some good custom gun books. I dont want to learn to do it myself as I have two left hands and the artistic abilities of an ape. I was after a book which describes different aspects of custom gun making so I can get some ideas on engraving, action/metal work, stocks, mounts, etc . I thought it might give me some more ideas about what I might like in my next gun, so I can make better suggestions to my gunmaker. Any good books out there.

Tom Turpin's "Modern Custom Guns" is the first to come to mind. The is also a book by Steven Dodd Hughes IIRC that has some good picts. There is alot to be gleaned from the classic Mauser rifle books too - Jon Speed, Womack, Kuhnhausen. I'm sure you'll get more favorites! JP

I'll just add that Stephen Dodd Hughes has a new book out called Fine Gunmaking - Double Shotguns. There are some beautiful pieces in there. I got a copy from Stephen when I was in Livingston, and got to see some of his work, just beautiful. Well worth checking out. - Dan
