Hiya folks. I wasn't sure where to place this post; didn't do too well over in 'reloading', but looking at the calibers here @ in 'big bore'...I feel just a little smallish! Hopin' somebody has some insight into this issue. I am working up loads for my .376, and found the same issue some years ago w/ a M-70 in .375H&H, and that's this: on my Stoney Point OAL gauge, I have found that my Steyr COULD take a cartridge with a OAL of 3.600, but due to magazine length restrictions, have to keep it at 3.125. This, seems to me, to be a HUGE jump to the lands for this cartridge, and have to believe that the accuracy suffers for it. Whatdaya think? Pipe in on how it affects various calibers/guns other than this one please. Thanks.

RC You might have a hard time believeing this, but.... Ignore it! Just go ahead and crimp at the cannelure. Don't worry about the long jump to the lands. My Prohunter .376 shoots sub moa like this. Elmo

RC, Mine does not seem bothered by the jump either. It also feeds whatever I load, including some very large meplat solids. jim dodd

Hi RC, My 416 Taylor had a long freebore and I was curious as to how this effected accuracy also. I loaded some rounds that would fit the magazine and leave all the freebore and then made some rounds with the bullet just shy of the lands which I single loaded. End result was that both 5 shot groups were basically the same. Take care, 470 Mbogo

Yep, try Nosler 260 Part's and 260 Bt in front of VV550. I've got two and have seen 4 more that shoot the heck out of that load, All sub MOA. Just seat em out as far as you can in the mag. Crimp em good.

OK Steve, I wrote you a private email asking about the 'rest of the story' on the VV550, but am posting it here, as I really believe that a bunch of folks here w/the .376 Steyr's would LOVE to hear about some different loadings for this rifle. So, tell us please, what is the formula??? Thanks, RC
