Hunting with the .500 Jeffery
Gentlemen

I just came back from Argentina where I was hunting with Juan Pozzi.

We hunted wild boar, hogs, Ram and goat.

All game was taken with the .500 Jeffery or my cold steel trail master.

This is a picture of the wild boar that I shoot with a 535 grn bullet at 2400 fps.

The intry wound

And the exit

The .500 Jeffery is a great all round calibre Big Grin and the effect on all the game shoot was more the enough. To compensate for the lack of gun all Big Grin shots where placed high in the shoulder. All game dead on impact.

Cheers,

André

Congratulations on a successful trip!

Did you compare performance of Woodleighs to monolithic hollow points?

Also, can you post a pic of the knife you used?

Thanks!

500graines

I used the cold steel trail master 10 inch.

Unfortunately I only shoot with the Woodleigh SN and did not get a chance to test my own bullets shame
This was due to the fact that my wife s pregnancy was not going as planed and I had to leave early from Argentina. She is feeling better now thumb

Cheers,

André

Andre,

Best wishes to your wife and thanks for the pics.

Have you considered a bayonet lug for the Heym so that you don't get your hand dirty next time? Wink Smiler

Andre':

Most excellent! Thanks for sharing. I have taken 300 pound Russian boars in Tennessee with .35 Whelen rifle, .44 RM revolver, and Cold Steel Boar Spear. I have not gotten the courage up to take one with Bowie knife alone.

I found that the .35 Whelen flattened a pig pretty well, so don't doubt that your .500 Jeffery was more than adequate! Big Grin

A blow-by-blow account of the knife fight with the boar would be appreciated. Did you gallop up on horseback, grab its tail and stab downward between the shoulder blades? Wink Please tell more!

Andre, well done!. Alas, that´s why I shoot them hogs in the neck....otherwise too much waste of good meat.
I regret that you had to leave so soon and hope that your wife is feeling better.
Also I´d wish to meet you but couldn´t find a hole in my agenda.

Hi Andre,
Best wishes for your wife.
I was looking forward to hearing about the performance of your bullets but it sounds like you had enough fun to make a return trip. Great pictures.
Take good care,

Glad you had the knife. After all if the "small" "inadequate" .500 Jeffrey didn't drop them, the knife would be the last line of defence. Smiler

PS If you and your wife have a son, are you going to call him "Jeffrey"? Big Grin

André: congrats on a nice hunt. All the best to you and your wife.

How does the Apel (?) scope mount hold up? It seems to be a light scope, but still.

Gentlemen

Thanks for all the nice thoughts regarding my wife. thumb
She is feeling better and the baby too. They will take my daughter out on the 27th of April Big Grin

The mount is a EAW XS mount made especially for big magnums like the .500 Jeffery and the like.
The XS from EAW is bigger the the Magnum pivot mount.
I took the scope off many times in Argentina when people had to try the rifle and when I put it back on the rifle is still right on the money thumb German engineering at its finest.
You can get the mount at New England custom guns and other fine gun dealers.
The Heym is made with this mount in mind.

Cheers,

André

If you want sa good rifle you will have to pay $$$ to get it.
Fact is that a CZ is a goos rifle but as a tool for profesional use I would get it customizes or get a custom rifle.

Get a barreled action and have a goog gunsmith make you a .505 Gibbs.

The 458 lott is a good caliber but can not be compared with a .505 cal.

André

I talked to a Mike at CZ who said that is dose happen. He recomended Having it glass bedded, crossbolted, and another recoil lug. Many on this site agree. That is what i intend to do. Here the 505 is about twice as high as the 458 lott. That is why many buy it. I hope I get to try it out where you all hunted.
