458 Win in a 458 Lott Login/Join

Gentlemen, have any of you with a 458 Lott shot any 458 Win ammo in your rifle to check how much difference there is in the point of impact?
If so what were the results.

Also did the 458 Win feed in your 458 Lott?

I've only done it once. With one box of ammo.

The shorter Winchester rounds would not feed reliably. The rounds would sometimes jump up through the rails too soon, miss the feed ramp and hang up on the top or side of the chamber.

This rifle feeds Lott rounds without fail.

As for POI, IIRC, the Winchester rounds shot a few inches higher than the Lott rounds at 50 yards, both with 500 grain bullets.

It was enough for me to realize that, at least in my rifle, Winchester rounds were an option but only if I was willing to use my six shooter as a single shot.

In other words, not a real option on a DGR, at least not in my book.

Others may have had more luck, but as I say, using the Winchester rounds is not an option in my rifle.

When my CZ 458WM barrel went I had all these rounds left over including some from load development. There must have been a 150 or so rounds.I had run out of ammo for my Ruger lott and at the time did not have any bullets to reload with but still wanted to practice shooting offhand that week.Remembering I still had those rounds and that they where supposed to work as well in my lott,I took the whole bunch to the range and they shot and fed exactly like the lott rounds did at 50yds.

I prefer not to use the 458 Winchester Magnum cartridge in a rifle 458 Lott, for any damage (erosion) which will actually be produced in the chamber. I guess it will be a matter of thousands of shots, but being able to use original cartridges, the option of using Winchester cartridge would only be in an emergency.

I have shot the 458 win. rounds in my 458 Lott and not had a problem with them feeding. I did not see much different in point of impact at shorter distances of 60 yards and in. I have not tried it at longer distances.

In my M-70 that was originally a .458 and rechambered to the .450 Watts, and in the first rifle James Watts made in the .450, I shot the Watts, Lott, and .458 Win and could not tell the difference. But I only shot to 50 yards. Longer ranges over a bench you may notice a bit of difference in the impact but for off hand at practical hunting ranges there will be no difference.

About 6 years ago I put a box of WM through my Lott RSM. I wanted to make sure they would function and where they would print in relation to the Lott cartridges, in the event I had to scrounge ammo on safari. All went smoothly and as I recall the POI at 50 yards was essentially the same.

Bought a CZ 550 many years ago in 458WM. It shot and fed fine however the cartridges rattled around in the magazine. The follower spring was to soft to secure the cartridges in that big magazine box. I had the gun reamed to fit the Lott. It just matches that mag box better. Also bought a bit stronger Magazine spring. I have not shot a Win Mag in it since the change to the Lott but it continues to feed just fine with the Win mag.
BTW; I did buy another 458 Win Mag; A Browning Safari that I actually prefer over the CZ Lott.
