This is a known problem considering prior postings. I need a solution of the problem since I'm going to Africa for buffalo hunting next year. In detail my CZ 550/ 416 Rigby problem is erratic action between the second and third round. When the second and empty round is ejected it hookes the rim of the third round on the left side in the magazine box causing it to move forward. The result depends of the amount of force beeing used when operating the bolt. The second round will not eject properly and lies itself on the top of the third round causing a jam, and if I'm lucky the second round ejects and kicks the third round the whole way out of the magazine box and I can chamber the fourth round. I have tried a stronger follower spring, different shape of the follower without solving the problem. The solution is a true big bore specialist I know, but in Norway they are scarce. Do anyone know the details of the work needed to fix this particular CZ 550/ 416 Rigby problem?

Hello, Since number of gunsmiths is scarce, would advise to contact manufacture and arrange for rifle to be returned and repaired. Would encourage that you tell mfg. that you need the rifle before the end of this year and then you may well have it back in time for your African hunt. Seriously, would stay after them for speedy turn around. No reason to sell rifle of this caliber, dangerous game rifle, and have such problems and would advise them of same. Good Luck

Return to manufactor is not an option. I bought the 550 from a guy in 2000 (it's a 1999 model) that has become scared of the recoil after a few shots. He's got the stock cracked at the known spots by the few shots he's fired. Since then I have repaired and glas bedded the stock with two recoil bolts in addition to the one factory mounted. I have reshaped the stock to my fit, mounted a Pacmayr decellarator, a mercury reciol supressor in the stock and I have a lightweigt 2,5x scope with Warne QD mounts. I like the rifle very much except that specific failure. I have shot 600 rounds, most 430 grs cast lead bullets at 2000 f/s among with 410 grs Woodleigs at 2400 f/s.

The problem is solved!!! Dag Ward (a very skilled Norwegian gun smith) knew what to do: The ejection port at the rear bridge of the receiver is too narrow for the 416 Rigby and other big bellied cartridges. He just removed some steel and opened up the area and now the CZ gets rid of the empty shells as a real DG rifle .

Heck! I'm going to send this to my gunsmith, he's supposed to be working on the same thing! Took him 4 months or so to open up my gun case for the first time... Frans
