Big Al, I have no idea where one would get 4 bore ammo, and though you are probably aware of it already,it is illegal to use a shotgun larger than 10 ga on migratory birds, in the USA! Who made this 4 bore pump, and what does it weigh? ------------------ [This message has been edited by MacD37 (edited 08-23-2001).]

And where the dickens do you get it? Can you imagine taking that thing out to the trap range among all the swishers with their Perazzis? What a hoot!

Big Al- Since ammo is pretty scarce, why not have a machinist make a few hulls from brass? I'm sure someone from this site could do it for you, and at a reasonable cost, too.

Sarge, there's a 4 bore pump being sold on Tennessee Guns for about $800. They don't know where to find ammo for it either. here's the link for you to ponder over...

Gawd, what a monster! Hmmm, someone who has better access to military surplus than might just try this one out. Get hold of some 20mm aircraft cannon brass and cut it to 2 7/8". I'll bet you that would just about do the ticket. Getting the dies is the next problem. Somehow this looks like the kind of project that you get into for cheap and then spend a fortune making it work. Do you realize that this thing should load 4 oz. of shot? Eeooowwwww! Sarge

My contact in Britain, where it is still legal to use such things on waterfowl, believes that those who still shoot giant doubles reload brass shells, rather than relying on commercial ammunition. However, he is going to a gamefair (a fine custom sadly neglected in the colonies) this weekend and will report back with more accurate information. Wouldn't they be legal on turkey in some states? Can you imagine hanging one in the back window of your pickup? Heheheheheheh Sarge

All right, Al, here is what I could find courtesy of Peter who lives in the U.K. where such arms are still legal for hunting and where they look upon the great wildfowlers as we look upon black powder buffalo rifles. Walter, He also mentioned that he has just taken delivery of 6000 4-bore paper tubes and is waiting for the brass bases. He is not sure when all this to going to come together but it is not likely to be soon. He is in the process of making a pair of SxS 4 bore's so he seems to have the right pedigree... I don't know him at all, but two different wildfowlers at the gamefair suggested him. When I phoned him at 9pm on a Bank holiday evening and pulled from a family dinner, he was still sociable enough to chat. I have seen one of his brass cartridges at the gamefair and it certainly seemed well made. He did say that he would need certain measurements etc particular to your friends gun but your best chatting direct to sort the detail. Anyway, the guys name is Alan Myers, tele (0) 1995 604251 & his e-mail address is gooseguns@talk21.com if I got it down correctly. He does not have a webpage yet but there is one in the pipeline. Im away again tomorrow until Thursday but I would be happy to check any other details for you when I get back, Yours in Sport, Pete

We got Rocky Mtn to make 4bore cases for AL's and others Tulas. The case is shorter than other 4bores. and of smaller bore than our 4 bore and the 4boresmade in AUS, UK,etc. Al and others problems are the load data, because barrel is thin and cases can't be loaded like rifle.Poster in UP who got some of the brass Rocky Mtn cases for his Tula, has a paper 4bore case made in France, called Gevelot, and it is too long. But they are the right diameter. They are collectors items worth 30 bucks which means they are too expensive to cut of for the Tula. If the guy getting the parts for making cases gets going that will help. But load data still is the problem.Ed MZEE WA SIKU

Ed, I'll make you cases give me an email with what you need and how many and I'll get you a price. I did the first 200 or so pieces of 600 OK brass this way and Rob was getting over 200 fps with a 900 gr bullet and 6-7 reloads. Anyway, give me a shout if you need some help here. John

I don't need cases as my 4bore is bigger. And Rocky MTN is all set up and has them on hand for TULA. We need shotgun load developement for that case and gun, and if a regular case loaded was around, maybewe could use it to figure out proper loads. If we found paper cases, don't know how much reloading they will take compared to brass cases.I know that I don't have means for load developement testing and loading safe shotgun powder loads.Ed.
