.50 BMG frangible projectiles? Login/Join

OK, so I have a 50 cal wildcat and I am looking for some "non standard" projectiles. I am loading already the 525 Barnes RN, 570 Barnes XLC, 750 H'dy Amax and sabots with 168-220 gr 30 cal bullets. I have a few Hawk 500 and 700 gr semi-spitzers but I am looking for some truly novel projectiles

Other than GS, any source of .510 diameter driving band bullets?

What about frangible or other?

Thanks!

Marty,

Hawk do some flat nose hollow points.

Woodleigh has a 440 grain jacketed bullet for the 500 Black powder express. Geoff McDonald (who is Woodleigh) use the 440 grainers in a 500 Nitro for busting kangaroos, goats and pigs.

Marty,

More internet problems for me, but...try www.watsonsweapons.com for frangible .50 BMG projos. They appear to be swaged from .308 winchester cases. I'll check my issues of Very High Power and see if anyone else makes frangible projos. Have you shot the Phantom yet?

The frangables from Larry Watsons place are top notch if you're looking for 'varmint' bullets in .510". I have some of them and have seen an animal (javelina) shot with them and explosive is all I can say.

If memory serves correctly, they are .300 Win Mag cases that have been filled with #12 lead shot and swaged into a spitzer and then the driving band swaged to .510"

Some guys use them where the potential of riccochet would be 'bad'.

ALSO, for driving band bullets, check out AAA Ammo in Omaha,NE. Get the 705 Harlow bullet as it is the most accurate bullet I've seen that can fit in a standard chambered gun. The first driving band is .500" which centers itself on the top of the lands and is phenominally accurate. Just ask RIP

Test fire only with the 570 gr XLC, 750 gr AMax and 168 gr sabot load. A bit of a handful, but pure fun. Strips them out of the mag like butter ....

Will give Bridger a holler but have to get ready for SHOT Show. Was going to shoot for groups tomorrow but have to tend to sick little one (ear infection) and rain is making range unusable (darn this 70 degree weather in January ) Might go shoot while the big game is on, no unwelcome onlookers ...

Marty, the high today was 5, with snow, it's -5 out right now. The last thing in the world that I want to hear about is your 70 degree weather!!! As for my .404 Rhinosaurus concept, looks like people are interested in such a beast...

James L Smith who runs A-square these days is selling the lion loads again. These are designed to fragment on big game.
