I posted this on the "Reloading" forum, but haven't got any responses.

To those of you who own one of these, how does one calibrate the system? I am interested in getting one, but if it cannot be calibrated I am skeptical about the accuracy of the "pressure" measurement.

Thanks for the information,
TEG

Odd, Axel claims he is done, and SRS/Todd E starts posting again... [Confused]

I have not heard of the Oehler Pressure equiptment. Which doesn't mean anything unusual. But I am curious about it. Does anyone have any information?

Longbob,
They are outta austin, and the 43 does NOT measure "saami" as
quote:
The Model 83 is an industrial strength version of the Model 43, and is capable of measuring pressure per SAAMI specifications.
In theory, you fire factory ammo (and assume it's safe) in your gun, see what the strain is, and then see if your loads are higher or lower, not measured in Xk psi, but something???

Jeffeosso,
Thanks for the link. I was aware of it, but thanks anyway. I was hoping to hear from someone who has actually used one of the 43's with regard to how the calibration worked. I guess I will have to call Oehler and talk to them directly. Hopefully I get someone who knows what they are talking about and not just a "salesman".

Thanks again,
TEG

KBGuns,

How did you know TEG is Axel? I wonder if you know something that we don't know. You must have access to the IP or something. Just curious. No big deal. Thanks.

He probably is one of Axel's identities!

If we can go back to the original question for a minute? Just how does someone calibrate this equipment? It doesn't say on that link that Jeffeosso supplied. How do you know you are getting accurate imformation if you cannot calibrate it.

Mingo,

Nothing that fancy. TEG member ID# 8710, do a search on it. You will see that this account used to be SRS, who admitted to being ToddE. "Taking wisemen counsel" and "enough is enough" were both started by SRS(#8710). I noticed SRS changed his name to TEG a while ago when the author changed on the thread "taking wisemens counsel". I have been waiting for him to start posting again... [Wink]

looky at like these, posted by TEG, but signed SRS:
"Taking wisemens counsel"

"Enough is Enough"
http://www.serveroptions.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=002177#000000

In his reply to Pecos, SRS signs;
"Have a wonderful day children!
SRS aka Todd E aka Todd G"

"Todd E" + "Todd G" = "TEG"

As to Axel being ToddE, I do not know, but their behavior would sugest it. Additionally, Axel makes his "I am done" post and then SRS(now TEG) starts posting again. Rather odd I think...

To anyone who cares. I posted this on the reloading forum as well. It is a summary of what Oehler told me about their M43 and my feeling about what you get for the money.

"Dan,

From what I have been told your comments are exactly correct. The strain gage does generate a micro voltage. This is amplified by a conditioning circuit. This amplified output is then "fitted" to a generic calibration curve and a "pressure" is displayed on the machine's read out.

As such, there is NO calibration possible with the Oehler 43. You can only get relative pressure estimates based upon a factory load baseline.
So you shoot a factory loaded cartridge and get a machine displayed pressure of 55000 psi. You then fire your hand load and get 60000 psi. This may or may not actually be 60000 psi. All you know for certain is that your hand load is generating more pressure than the factory load. The above was what I got from Oehler's technical service rep.

I guess to me, anyway, $900 is too much money for this kinda accuracy. I want the real deal for that kind money."

TEG

PS: Anybody get the feeling that KBGuns enjoys stirring up trouble? Perhaps he is a troll, or worse yet Axel under a different name.
