Ed,

I found a huge thread on the 550 Magnum and have skimmed across it.

This 550 sounds like it would be ideal for me.

So how does the following sound to you:

I send a cheque over to you (and with some extra to cover your costs etc.) for the price of barrel, dies, some cases etc.

I am not sure whether it would be better to get one chambered and fitted to a Weatherby action over there and then import the lot.....or to get a muzzle brake fitted over there and then import barrel with muzzle brake fitted, dies, cases etc and Manson reamer so as to have it chambered and fitted out here. Possibly the latter would be best.

Mike-That is absolutely great. We got a convert. You should contact RNS(Neal) to have him do this for you.He is getting brass, dies, barrels, etc.He is close to Classic Barrel
who is making them. The headstamped cases he arranged, he is making up the order for bullets from Hawk, etc.
My connection with 550, I expanded first case with my tools for Neal and posted first on here so everyone could see how they looked. And I am building a long 550 HE wildcat(different longer belted case), and having 50 cal barrel
being rebored to 550, making my 510 HE into a 550 HE. Neal is one of the great fellas to work with, as well as Dan at Classic barrel. Please try to get some
more of your mates over there interested.Ed.

Ed,

Will this be as simple as me sending the money over or are there any other problems I should know about.

I am aware of export licence requirements etc.

But are there any hangups with barrels, dies or whatever.

Ed I think Mike meant hangups as in the actual production of the dies, barrel etc. at your end.
Let us know what the story is please.

Karl-Mike--Sorry about misunderstanding question..Dan made first batch of barrels,I assume can make another run in a little while. The die and reamer makers are working at it and have made first ones.Hawk is making first run of 600 gr
bullets, then will do run of 700gr after that.Others are making bullets and casting equipment for a variety of weights.Bridger can make solids any time.
To get the exact delivery of everything, Neal will know
and he will let you know when you guys get together by
email or phone. If a bunch of you there do this you can
pass the same reamer around over there. The die set can be had with 2 expanders to take 460 brass up to 550.So you can use regular brass as well as get headstamped from Quality cartridge that he arranged.Ed.

Ed,

The reamer is simple. I will buy it and give it to Denis Tobler..he is our version of Pac-Nor...

BUT..is reamer, dies, barrels etc done..in production.

My thinking at this stage is that I would get a barrel with muzzle brake fitted in the US. But I guess we need to hear back from Neal first.

I am ready to go to the bank on Monday morning and get the US bank draught done payable to "whoever".

All I need is someone to tell me "how much" and payable to "whoever"

Again, I am aware of the export licence situation. No point worrying about that until we have the gear to export.

Mike just a point and my lack of gunsmithing knowledge will be most apparent here. Tobler(I think the younger) told me last month he can only handle 50 cal since they have switched to a less powerful machine that cannot handle his bigger reamers. Not sure if this means anything in this case but you might want to check with him.

Also Geoff Mcdonald can swage his 585 bullets down to 55 cal, or so the 55 boyes guys tell me.

Karl,

First point, get off the fucking internet so you can answer the phone.

I think Robert will be referring to "barrel making"

By the way, I might be better off to send the money over to cover barrel, cases, dies etc plus some extra to buy a 30/378 Wby Synthetic and it could be rebarreled in America. Also send the money for the Manson reamer so we get one of those.

I think there is also a small chance that I can get Weatherby to ship the barreled action under their export licence arrangement.

Once Ed or Neal comes back to me with "this is a goer" and I send my money I will ring Kevin Nunes at Wby.

Mike

I should recieve the first set of dies.

I ordered a .510" and a .550" tapered expander and a trim die from him. I will put together some feeding dummies and post a picture of them.

Looking forward to your call
