Sorry fourbore. Tang safeties on doubles block the triggers. Because this was found to be unsafe (double discharges) the "safety sear" or "intercepting sear" was invented. I know. A properly tuned lock does not double. We are talking about mechanical devises used under many conditions. Something is bound to go wrong at some point. Tom

I also prefer the tang located safety over anything else, due to it can be manipulated with the thumb and not changing my shooting grip. I believe several years ago someone (Styer???) made a tang safety that appeared to be a wheel with 3 positions??? I like the function of the Ruger & Winchester swing safeties, but not the location - due to having to adjust my grip to take the safety off. I currently favor the "old lawsuit friendly non-idiot resistant" Remington safety with the "Safe & Locked" or "Fire & Unlocked".

Yes the Styer is a 3 position tang safety. All the way back locks action up and locks firein pin out of alighnment, push forward a little and the bolt handle jumps up a fraction as the action unlocks and the fireing pin comes back into line with the primer...roll it forwqard some more (and a red dot appears) and you are good to fire. It is fast to use. Much faster than the old wing safety on the mauser and no slower than the old style Bruno catch - but also so much more familiar to me now that I shoot so much shotgun and a double.
