Just picked up a 375 H&H and am curious what guys that have them recommend for bullet weight. It will be primarily used for African plains and dangerous game. It seems like there are quite a few choices and would like to know what you have had luck with in the field.

If I could only have one bullet it would be the 300 TSX though I'm told the 270 TSX is it's equal in penetration.

Everyone will tell you they just bounce off buffalo and elephants will laugh at you.

Barely adequate for squirrel and rabbit.

I use the 300 grain TSX for steenbok to Cape Buffalo. But if I was going to hunt strictly for Cape buffalo and Elephant I would try a 350 grain bullet.

I use BArnes 300 grain TSX for buffalo and almost all of the plains game. Works well on everything so far. I also load some Barnes 300?grain solids and have never needed them but would use them on elephant or hippo and backup on buffalo if needed.

The most accurate bullet for my 375's has been the Sierra 300 grain Gameking. Great bullet for plains game but too soft for dangerous game (other than cats). Shot a number of impala with 300 grain Hornady solids for camp meat in Tanzania. PH wanted them shot thru the lungs to minimize meat damage. At the shot, I thought I was missing as they would run 50-100 yards before piling up dead.

I hear that Sierra 300gr. Gameking is a very good bullet. I'm told it's an under rated bullet that is great on Moose and bear too.

I sure like the Swift A-Frame .375 bullet for big plains game. It's way more than is needed but it sure is satsfying to use. Brian

PS. I forgot to mention. I really like the Cutting Edge Bullet 300 gr. Solid for cape buffalo. Straight full length penetration on two bulls. One shot kills, both ran 30-40 yds.

There are no flies on the 300 grain TSX. However, for plains game I would at least test the 250 TTSX. It will fly a little flatter and it may pattern usefully with a 300 grain. It it prints 1-2" higher, then sight in the 250 at 2" high for a 100 and use the 300's when stalking buffalo.

Here is a group of 250 TTSX with a 375 Ruger.

If your 300 grainers would print just under that you would be good to go, though I wouldn't hesitate to take a buffalo with the 250 TTSX.

For newer technology you might want to try a box of 235 grain CEB Extended Range Raptor. Again, a great plains game bullet and good for buffalo, too, despite the seemingly low sectional density. It's a different technology.

While I've no on game (yet) experience with African animals, I've had some wonderful groups with TSX 270's, SGK 300's, and Woodleigh PP 350's. Still toying with different powders for the TSX 350's.

Pick any premium bullet and you are good to go. Barnes, Swift, Nosler, Woodleigh, whatever. Find out what your rifle likes and shoot it a lot.

For expanding bullets, I have always liked the 270s.

For plainsgame I have always liked the Noslers GS Customs, and Woodleighs and most any 250 to 300 gr. bullet works on PG..No such thing as bullet failure on PG with a .375..

For Buffalo Im fond of the 350 gr. PP and RN Woodleighs. I also like the GS Customs and especially the heavy cup point from North Fork.

You have so many good choices, the days of bullet failure have about disappeared short of an individual getting past inspection.

I agree with Frank. I have used 300gr but prefer the 350gr for buffalo. I like lead core bullets so North Forks get the nod from me. I like the so much that I sell them here in SA. Other choices are TBBC and AFrame. Also possibly try Rhino solid shank.

I felt the TBBC was a fine choice for me. Nothing ran off and they fed thru any gun I put them in.

My 375 H&H M70 SE loves the 260 grain Nosler Partition at about 2,700 fps and it makes a fine plains game bullet.

I have killed over 100 head of game with my .375 H&H using 300 grain TSX's. I don't see any need to change things there.

Having said that, I would feel comfortable with 300 grain TBBC's, 300 grain A Frames, or the north forks, as I have used all of the above with good results as well, just not as many animals.

I don't see any need to use lighter bullets as as long as you know your rifle, it will get the job done out to 400 without fuss, and you will not likely need further unless you are doing some specialized hunting, then a different cartridge would be in order. Every .375 I have worked with has liked 300 grain bullets reasonable well, but some have not cared for the lighter ones.
