WY gunsmith Randy Selby just returned my reworked Model 70. The minute I picked it up I knew it was a completely different rifle. No more barrel heavy feel and it shed around 20 oz of weight. The barrel was re contoured, cut to 22 inches and given a great recessed crown. The stainless barrel was bead blasted and the sights re set. He bedded the reworked metal in my HS-Precision stock. This is my second big bore rifle Randy has worked on and he is very reasonable with good turn around time. Can't wait to take it hunting.

Got any pictures? I want to do the same set up (just not stainless) If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

The Stainless Classic M70's are a very good rifle. I think the best thing I did to a couple of mine was the addition of the McMillan Supergrade stock. I know the factory plastic stocks are ok, and accurate stocks, but the McMillan gave it just the right feel and a solid feel too. The bedding and pillars didn't hurt anything either.

Mine was rebored, cut to 22" and rechambered to a 458 Lott. Wears a McMillan Express stock. Weighs under 9.5 lbs scoped. Nice platforms to dissect into something better

Mine has the bbl turned to Ftw contour and cut to 21" and is installed in one of the old McMillian M-70 Ftw stocks. That seems like a solid hunting set-up. I have purchased a stainless Classic that has that has been re-barreled to a 22" 416 Rem, with a HS Precision stock. It is presently at the gunsmith's for length of pull reduction. Another SS Classic in 375 H&H is also in the shop, being bedded in a McMillan Supergrade dark McWoody with one piece bottom metal, barrel cut to 22" with recessed crown. I am looking forward to getting both of these rifles back. I have another, that I have been debating for years to re-barrel to 340 WBY.

I stuck my Ruger in a Ruger Boat Paddle stock and it was super nice, so nice in fact that a guy talked me out of it before I got to take it hunting, oh well it didn't snow until Christmas, so no need.. I saw a Winchester stainless .375 H&H on sale for a pretty decent price right before Christmas but resisted buying it even though I've been looking for one. It was either presents for my grandkids or...... Even I have my limits sometime.
