I think this must be a custom job.

We have two Ruger #1s chambered for the 460 Weatherby. It is a bit of a job trying to get the extractor to work, as opening it to fit that larger case head tends to make very small.

They do kick, but not any more than any rifle that I have shot which was chambered for the 460 Weatherby.

The secret of handling heavy recoil is to know you are shooting a rifle that WILL whack you back, just be prepared for it.

As Walter said once "I KNOW it is going to kick me. But I never realized it is going to kick me THAT much! I will never, ever shoot that bloody gun of yours"

I wish I had a video camera when he fired that Ruger #1 in 460 Weatherby!

He was wearing his glasses, and at the shot, the lenses flew out of the frame! Walter was standing there shaking and mumbling "Saeed, I cannot see! I cannot SEE! I've gone BLIND!"

He said he thought the rifle blew up, and that he was dead and already in heaven! But, when he looked and saw me rolling on the floor next to him laughing, he realized that he was still alive!

George,
I checked the #1 out last Friday. It's in my safe now! It is a "Red Pad Era" gun with beautiful figured wood. It started out as a #1 H model and has a aftermarket 26" heavy barrel. I don't know what kind it is yet, but I'm betting that it's a good one judging by the workmanship on the gun. It has a barrel mounted sling swivel and great blueing job. Also has a Pachmar Triple Magnum pad that was done by a pro. Has a Redfield 3x9 wide view scope that I am replacing. I have a Springfield Armory 4.5x14x56 with a 30mm tube I was thinking about? Kinda want to make this a long range gun...Who knows? I should be saving up for my Northwest Territory Bear/Moose/Caribu/Whitetail trip next September. I really needed another big gun like a "poke in the eye with a sharp stick", but I have a soft spot for #1's and the price was right. I have 11 guns now that are .375cal and up. When I sneak another one in the house and my wife asks if this one is my "safari rifle", I just smile and reply: "yes...this is the one".
I will try to post a picture if I can figure out how. It will have to be next week because I am black powder hunting this week.
