Guys, I got my CZ 550 Safari Mag .416 Rigby used and never saw a manual for it. What is the twist? My rifle is a very early one ... the current rifles are listed on the CZ site as being 1:17. Thanks! Mike, Rather than guess, just measure your barrel's twist with a cleaning rod and a Sharpie. Search this forum and Gunsmithing for the instructions. George

I did as George said. 1:16.5" is what I got for my older CZ 550 Magnum .416 Rigby, all made in Czechoslovakia. That is CIP spec also, IIRC. I have seen it listed as the CZ spec in their literature, once upon a time, 1:16.5". I cannot say what the current .416 twist is, from CZ-USA, for something like the .416 Taylor, etc. Check yours and see. Ball-bearing-handled cleaning rod, tightly patched jag that will follow the rifling without skidding, Sharpie mark on the rod where the rod starts disappearing into the action as you push it, then another Sharpie mark on the rod at the same point relative to the action--after one revolution of the rod. Measure the distance in inches between the two marks. That is the twist rate in inches. You can figure out a way to make a flag on the rod, like a stiff rooster comb of masking tape, standing up straight from the rod, near the handle end of the rod, so as to more precisely time the one complete revolution of the rod. A brass key-like jag that precisely fits the rifling grooves would be helpful for precision, but a close-fitting patched jag is pretty good.
