It's not just you. The combination of the island rear site and the very slim and long barrel definately makes the short forearm look even more clunky. You see a lot of English pattern stocks that resemble that one. A bit too short looking ofr my taste. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Ray loves that sort of funny stock. It must be because his left arm is crippled and contracted and can't reach very far. No, just kidding. Actually it is just a matter of style. It goes well with the extended pinky fingers (on both hands) of a British rifle shooter in high form. I think it is ugly. A crippled stock caused by a screw up on the forend that had to be redone, or due to putting the barrel band sling stud on to close to the breech, then having to cut the stock off to fit.

Yes, too short with that rear sight set up. IMO, another inch and a half to two inches would have given it the right proportions. Shame, really, since it's such a beautiful rifle otherwise, IMO. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

I like short forarms BUT that one is too short for my taste. Doug Humbarger NRA Life member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 72'73. Yankee Station Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Monte Mandarino would not make a mistake such as one that RIP has described. The gun was no doubt custom built for someone of small stature considering the length of pull. My preference would be to add a couple inches of forearm length and another inch on the LOP.

I agree that the stock dimensions were not the result of a "screw up". The stock is made in the "British style". I don't mind the short forearm, but the grip area just doesn't work for me. Maybe it is because of a short LOP, but the deep butt coupled with the steeply angled toe line makes the grip area look too "spindly" for my tastes. Of course, Mr. Mandarino did not set out make the stock to my tastes. "There are only three kinds of people; those who can count, and those who can't."

If Ya'll ever handle some of them British Bolt rifles with a "short" forearm.... all other bolt rifles will feel "clunky". I shot a 500 Jeffery rifle by Mandarino a short while a go, it was a very well made rifle. Very Nice. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

I like short forearm guns, that one maybe a little on the short side. somewhere between 8 1/2 to 10 is fine with me. I think if the barrel band was a little closer to the forend it would look better. Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)

It suits me to a tee...I like'um like that and if the barrel band was closer to the forend then the gun would hang higher when slung, and by the time you add the sling swivel, particularly a QD type, to the hole you have another two inches or so and then it clicks and clunks on the forend as you trod through the bushes... Monty Mandarino is one of the finest gunsmith in the Guild btw and that gun is way underpriced at about 10 cents on the dollar. Its a buy... Rip, you need to post your rifle next to his for comparison!! Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

BTW, the gun has a very short LOP at 13.25, that is a very small person, but the forearm would still be correct for a tall person, you can pull the gun back very tight into your shoulder with a short forearm and dampen recoil all to heck by simply putting a finger around the front of the forend and then you also have a straight forearm under the rifle for good off hand style shooting. The stocklines are very traditional british and look ok with me, but.. and there is a but..the sights should have been withdrawn further back so they don`t protrude the forearm tip!. My future .333 jeffery will resemble that mauser, only looking better !. DRSS: HQ Scandinavia. Chapters in Sweden & Norway

Most American gun makers install a rib that you could land a plane on...too long and too wide, at a half inch wide and all the way to the forend..its heavy, ugly and not in the British stle they are attempting to copy. It should be labeled a 1/2 rib, as opposed to a quarter rib......A Holland and Holland rib is 5 inches long and a 1/4 inch wide..more to my liking...but to each his own. I"ve liked the "rigby" style ever since the Stuart Granger movies. I have seen some with difficult checkering completely around the end that really adds to the grip. That case hardening is a nice touch too.
