fla3006Sarasqueta Double Rifles
Anyone have knowledge of these? Saw a 470 sidelock at a gun show, looked fairly nice, not up to English standards, but much less expensive too.

new_guyVictor Sarsqueta = spanish made guns. You're right, it's not English, but it's not priced that way either.
If i remember reading correctly in "Spanish Best" the barrels come from Austria and are fitted in spain to their H&H style actions. It probably shoots well too.
However, they (like all of the spanish makers) have been through their ups & downs.
Key question: When was it made? That's easily identified from the proof marks. It's a long story, but there was a period in which all Spanish guns were made by a government owned company and quality suffered during that period. Before or after then, it's probably a pretty good gun.
They'd probably build a new one today for around 15-20K Euro or somewhere between 20&26K US.
If you don't want it - let me know where it is - i'd like to see it.

jeffeossoForrest,
as I am certain you recall, during WWII, ONLY spanish guns where "Exempt" from the german inspections, and only received property marks.
If it had a third link, I'd have been sunk

GeorgeS$10,000 for a Sarasqueta when there are English guns available for less? I don't think so.

I haven't seen any fully engraved 470NE English sidelocks in new condition for $10K.

GeorgeSIt's not the engraving that should be of primary, or even secondary concern. Reliability and resale value would be my concerns.
A utility grade English double will retain its resale value (and may even appreciate) far better than a Spanish guild gun.
Saraqueta made some fine guns, but people aren't lining up to buy them.

new_guyInteresting... Champlin has one just like that - that they recently re-regulated for 8900.00.
I'd bet that 8500 (or maybe less) would buy that gun.

AtkinsonThey usually bring about $7500..they are a good gun..I owned one for awhile and I liked it as well as any double for the most part...It was a high grade boxed gun in .470 and it shot well and seemed as good as any at the time. I sure wouldn't give $10,000 for one.
