I used a Bushnell red dot on my 45/70 when I had that for a while. It has the bonus of being able to hit what you are looking at even if the front lense is covered in mud or the scope cap is on if the dot is turned on and you have both eyes open. I was going to try a Burris Fastfire II on a big bore as I don't see open sights so good any more.

I have an ultra dot on a ruger superblackhawk 44 mag., I have many hundreds of full power loads thru it and it has never missed a beat. I was thinking of putting it on my ruger #1 in 458 lott.

The only thing I would say against it, is the dot seems like it might be a bit big. I have a trijicon reflex sight, w. a 4 MOA dot, and 80 yds and out, it's just too big -- I realize it won't matter up close, but it might be something to consider. I have a trijicon accupoint which I'm very fond of.

I would highly recommend it. Bets bang for the buck out there. I have subjected mine to thousands of full-house .475 Linebaugh rounds and it hasn't missed a beat on my custom Ruger SRH.

I have found that the 4 moa dot isn't prohibitive in any way, shape, or form. I have shot game with mine from a couple of yards away, out to 80 yards.

Aglifter, UltraDot makes a "MatchDot" unit with selectabel 1,2,4,8 MOA dots. Any word on parallax error on these units. I've heard some of red dots can be as bad as 3" off in 100 yards.

I have one on a BFR in .500 S&W and it's great. I just shot a pig with it on Saturday. As you might expect, one shot was sufficient.
