The fit, finish and handling are very good for asking price of $799. Frankly I expected about a thou. The name is Remington 798 'Safari' and cal. is Cool .375. Be sure to check one out before your next 'Knockabout' heavy game rifle purchase. Wink

799$??? Honestly, rip off. If you go back, look closer at the fit and finish of these rifles. 2 years ago and without a laminate stock, they were called Charles Daly Mausers and were under 400$ new, only thing thats changed is the stock, and the Remington stamp.

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

I remember those shiny ones w/o iron sights and yes they were horrendous. I will look at it again tomorrow and pinch my nose while I do it. Big Grin
PS. Remember we are talking 799USD and this is 2008.

Remington has to ruin everybody by putting those damn ugly as heck two lines right down the top of their stocks.. Can't remember which one it was but another one of their rifles had those ugly lines right down the top of the stock.. Those two lines are enough to make me not want one..

Rifle prices in general have not gone up that much. Its remington and sadly, gander mountain price gouging. From what I hear from a friend who works at one, those 798's are moving a hell of a lot slower then remington had expected. If you want one, wait it out, the prices will come down. I'm not sure about you, but I can hit the monthly gun show, pick up a VZ24 or decent commercial K98 for under 300$ for the action sometimes barreled action, and slap on a 150$ Adams & Bennet prefit barrel from miday, pick up a decent stock and have it all put together for probably the same price Remington wants for their crap, and have a much nicer rifle.

Oh yes, I remember. Not long ago one could get California imported Zbrojovka Brno Mannlicher built on VZ24 action for about $550. Much better finished rifle then my CZ550.
I'm not going to buy that ZCZngton because last aavailable spot was taken up by pristine 1959 vintage Beretta SxS shotgun. The "breats" or "balls" as english sometimes call them have hand engraved tiny lil' roses on them. Cool
