Late last year I ordered and paid in full for two Model 70 Alaskans in 375 H&H . They still have not been delivered . I wrote to Winchester Australia and they claim this model is no longer produced , however the US website still lists them as available .

Can anybody shed light on the truth of the situation . If they are still in production I will pressure Winchester Australia to deliver .

I bought mine last year, when you get yours it'll be worth the wait. All I did to mine was bed and trigger job, which is about minimum for anything passing through my hands. I like the lighter weight, the African is heavier than a .375 needs to be.

Thanks Fjold that was the question . In the end I rang Winchester USA ( not always easy with time differences ) and they said they are still in production . The General Manager of Winchester Australia had told me they were out of production , so I have corrected him on this . Hopefully now they will get me the 2 I have paid for .

The Winchester Australia guy may have gotten confused by this:

http://www.winchesterguns.com/...mily=001C&mid=535134

Winchester's website is always screwed up, and often misrepresents products in many ways. In their "Historic Products" section, they show all lines of the model 70 as discontinued after 2014.

http://www.winchesterguns.com/...amily=001C&offset=12

If this were true, I would think word would have gotten out by now. Model 70's certainly aren't setting any sales records, but they are nice rifles, and I would think that they will be around a little while longer. However, easier to manufacture, synthetic stocked, utilitarian rifles are going to be the end of the model 70 sooner or later. While I really don't have a problem with the MOA trigger, I think FN/BACO shot themselves in the foot by changing from the original model 70 trigger. Many "True Believers" just aren't having it.

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."
