Reading the thread on the Ruger #1's in 404 brought up a question. How difficult would it be to rebarrel a bolt action in .375 (Interarms Mark X)to .404.
I'm certain you wouldn't have too much problem with fitting the 404 into any standard length Mauser action--its been done by some of the best custom rifle makers for years. I'm using my new left-handed Montana 1999 to build a 404 but its a bit longer than a standard Mauser and should pose fewer problems.

I dod mine on a current M70, so I see no real problems w/ the MKX. A great cart. for all African game. I just wish Hornady or Speer would make an inexpensive bullet for practice, deer, etc.

Not a problem at all if the smith is familier with the 404 and can make one feed, many cannot....the box must be overhauled to completely new deminsions...the other problem is the need for a drop box for the 404, not thats not a problem it just adds to the expense..then you modify the action to fit the box and the rails to feed the big case...
The CZ has a big box and just requires rebarrel, but they don't feed without some extensive tweeking...

No drama's...if you are prepared to part with plenty of fabulous$$ I am a longway down the 1909 mauser .404 Jeffrey path now and the costs add up thats for sure. I have completely new bottom metal made for my action as well as a straight english bolt.

True, but only very slightly. Like Ray said, the mag. box & rails will be more of an issue. Still, a good smith should have no problem. Everyone should have a good .404!

I am assuming you are talking about the 550 Safari Magnum. It will work without modification! The 404 Jeffery is probably the EASIEST of all the bottlenecked big bore cartridges to get to feed, PERIOD! The darned thing has such a long gentle sloping shoulder, for crying out loud.
