I have followed several threads on AR talking about Leupold and how they honor their warranty commitments. Three weeks ago I notice that a scope on my .458 Lott Ruger Safari Magnum, a Leupold VIII 1.5x5, had a broken objective lens. I have no clue how the scope was broken, it could have been the positioning of the rings. So I packaged up the scope and sent it off to Leupold with a note indicating that I was not sure what happened, it could have been my fault, but the objective was broken. Yesterday, I received the scope back, fixed, for no charge.
In today's world where customer service frequently means what you are able to beat or sue out of someone, it is refreshing to have a company that takes their service commitment so seriously. Not only was I impressed that they fixed the scope with no shipping & handling, processing or other fees, but that they did so in the space of about two and a half weeks (and I did not indicate to them that I needed the scope back quickly).
I have always been impressed with Leupold scopes in terms of value for the money, even more so now.

Hello tsturm, Could not agree with you more about the fine service offered by Leupold. "no such thing as a used Leupold..." simply means that regardless of which owner you may be, Leupold will take care of it. Recently have bought a couple Nikon's and rival the features/performance of the Leupold's for me, but not sure how well the warranty issues will turn out when I need it???
my experience has been that they are bordering on incompetant. Glad your experience turned out better than the times I have used them. It has been a few years since the last time I had to deal with them, so maybe they have gotten some things straight since then

Several years ago, I damaged a 1.5 x 5 that I had bought from a friend, the damage was my fault. I sent it back and they sent me a brand new scope being unable to repair the old.

I had an identical problem with the same scope on my .375. The problem is caused by the front ring being in the same plane as the lens. Leupold quickly fixed and returned the scope, with the recommendation that I use offset rings, which I obtained. 900 rounds later, the lens is still intact.
I have used Leupold's customer service on four separate occasions, with sterling results. On one occasion, they replaced an LPS that had fallen from my nearly frozen hands in Saskatchewan with a new scope , no questions asked.

On an Australian trip, my scope turret was damaged (baggage handlers). So I sent it in fir repairs and told them this was no fault of the product, but that I need the repairs. Two weeks later, repaired and no charge. Unreal service and product backing in this world. Wouldn't consider any other scope due to this episode.

i have never had to use leupold's customer service, but the reason i keep buying them is because of their reputation for great customer service. sorry to you guys that have had substandard service but i hope you guys are the exception rather than the rule...
