Dear fellow forum members,I found a long lost box of these bullets for my .470 NE WR.Last week I have just 25 of them,I doubt if they are even available now.I need some advice on Powders and starting loads to get it to 2,100 fps and ideally 2,150 fps, using Federal Premium 215 Match Magnum primers/Regular 215 Magnum Primers.I need to get it right with the 1st 3 loads because I have to reload in the USA and test it in West Africa where I go every 6 weeks....The Rifle is in West Africa and I don't want to go through Customs Hastles....Need it for Forest Buffalo.I Shoot Woodleigh Soft and Solids Also,Data was seized along with my reloading dyes for no reason except to shake me down...Use only Hogdon Powders.....Thanks for help.Babaode

Powder choices are the H4831 which I have a lot of.....they say the H4831 SC gives less chamber pressure.I lost faith in Federal and so called "custom" loads after I dropped a Huge Tusker from 25 yds only to watch it get up from a frontal shot.....the chronograph of the rest of the batch revealed the bullets were travelling at about 1990 fps for Barnes solids and 1985 fps for Woodleigh Soft Points....Don't even use BBS 500 grains in 470NE DR's,they are long and don't stabilize early enough. The chronogram was done in 90 degree heat in West Africa.....I hunt without a PH,so if I screw up, that it.So far so Good.

That bullet has been shown to be highly suspect, my Hoosier friend. It fragments too easily for anything bigger than a chipmunk. My advice would be to use them for target practice only. Better bullets, including the Woodleighs you mention, are available for buffalo. Much better. No way would I use the A-Square Lion Load bullet on buff. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Thanks, but I would like to ask how many Forest Buffalo have you come across?.The Bullet that will penetrate and dissipate its energy by fragmentation 12 to 24 inches after entering these devlish critters are ones best bet to avoid a confrontation.I like the Woodleighs but the difference is that West African Forest Buffalo shot with the 410 Grain Woodleigh in a .416 Rigby have always excited without delivering the full punch.I am using my .470 NE with 5040 ft lbs of muzzle Energy.A lion Load is designed to break up right after contact to dissipate the full energy rather than exit and shread as much the tissue as possible.Forest Hunting in West Africa is totally different.

If you are looking for a bullet that is on the fragile side, the Hornady DGX seems to have that reputation. And you can still get them. I've not shot game with them, but that is the consensus from those that have. Their solids are good, but the DGX tends to turn inside out in a buffalo. Just a thought, good luck to a fellow Hoosier. Hold on just one second!
So you missed the brain on your frontal shot and that's the bullets fault? I don't think so.. As far as your theory about using a varmint bullet on forest buffalo. Good luck with that.
