RustyAnother 404 Jeffery update
All the metal work is in the creative hands of Scrollcutter.
Here are a few pics of the stocks and metal before it went out.

Roger thinks he will be finished by the end of the year and then all that Tip has to do is blue, final fit and regulate the standing leaf.

30 Caliber Mag FanRusty-
Very, very, very nice!! Your .404's are coming along nicely. I got a chance to drop off a fixer-upper with Tip day before yesterday. A really nice guy. This project is a Browning Safari in .264 Winnie. I'll post some before and after pictures when I get it further along.
Congratulations!!!
May the wind be in your face and the sun at your back.

Hog KillerThey are loking great Rusty. You really need to bring yours to a "Bubba Shoot", after the first of the year. So that the "Band of Bubbas" can inspect it. Being that it is a big bore and a
BOLT RIFLE.

Do not forget to bring the ammo with it.

That is shaping up into being one of the best looking rifles I have ever seen. You've earned it old boy.

Hopefully it will be done by DSCI andwe can all get a hands on look.

fla3006Super nice, something you will be very proud to own. Love the stock blank, even if it isn't Juglans regia.

PWN375Rusty,
As one of your friends, I will gladly save you the horrible beating breaking in the rifle will entail and volunteer to take it for a year or three, shoot it every week and even tote it to Africa before turing it over fully experienced...someday. Now who said I have no regard for friends? OUTSTANDING shootin iron!!!

RustyTip says it feeds great. I plan to go over and shoot it when we regulate the standing leaf.
The wood is a piece of Black Walnut that I bought from Robert Watts at
WATTS WALNUTI own three of his blanks. Price was great and quailty as you can see isn't bad for a trashy American Black Walnut Blank!

John Valicek, stockmaker in Canyon Lake did the stock work.

Gringo CazadorForrest,
I thought you new better...........I'm a dumb Okie.

You may be pulling my leg about where Watts tree's come from, but I do know we did have a fair amount of Walnut trees, but I didn't have a clue what kind or if they were stock grade or not, been gone a long time.
Heck, I just discovered wood stocks a few yrs back............lol.

RogerRusty,
That wood shouldn"t be put on a piece of steel, it should be on canvas.
Beautiful, beautiful, stock.

Pardon me if I got confused. But does the stock have a cheekpiece on both the right hand and on the left hand side?
07 December 2005, 09:11
McCrayI think he's having a right and a left handed gun built.
Two 404s, but I dis-remember why.

One is for a friend of his. How's that for friendship.

mouse93nice gun

- those are definitely 2 different stocks - different paterns and colours - you can see righthand stock under lefthand stock on lover pic - correct me if I am wrong - I prefere the wood on the rightside
07 December 2005, 13:54
RustyDan,
Yes, there are two of them.
07 December 2005, 17:46
500grainsOK, that makes a lot more sense. A stock with a cheekpiece on both sides seemed bizarre, but possible of course!
07 December 2005, 18:34
RustyActually, it could have been a special double stocked custom rifle for one of Jeffe's AR rounds shooting special Hawk bullets.
Sorry guys I couldn't resist!
