Hey guys, What would be the recommendation on twist when building a 416 Remington Magnum? I've seen some recommend at least a 1:12 or 1:10 twist. I understand that the factory standard is 1:14. I would like the ability to shoot the 450gr, however will more than likely stay around the 400gr and lighter (Planning on shooting the 330gr GS Custom HV). I also understand that the 416 RM has the same expansion ratio as the .308 Winchester and that you can still get 2400fps with 400gr out of a 22inch tube. I'd probably stick with 24 inch myself for this build. Michael. She was only the Fish Mongers daughter. But she lay on the slab and said 'fillet'

I went with 1 in 10 on my 416 shoots every thing I have tried into the same small group.

Factory standard is 1/12 with Douglas and 1x14 with Shilen. What I have found with the 416 and most big bores is the twist makes little difference in accuracy, I suggest that may be due to the slow velocity..The twist does have something to do with the expansion of the bullet and how violently it disrupts, the faster the bullet spins the more stress it puts on the bullet..My old buddy George Hoffmand was always very interested in this aspect and its relationship to killing power. I have read quit a bit on the subject and IMO its probably best to settle somewhere in between, thus my choice of a 1x12 on that count. Like most things moderation is a pretty good idea.
