I'll try to get some pics posted soon. The rifle was built by Dave Young at Young's Gunsmithing in Tracy Montana. It has a CZ action, McMillan army green stock, 22.5" ss pac-nor barrel with 1-12 twist, NECG barrel band front sight and NECG ghost ring rear sight. I also had him install a(Ruger) scout scope base that accepts ruger rings. I mounted a Leupold 2.5 power scout scope in Ruger style Warne quick detatch rings. The rifle is throated to handle any .50 BMG bullet. So far I've shot about 30 rounds with various bullets. I haven't really tried for groups but it seems to like 570 gr TSX bullets. I really like the fact that the magazine is big enough to load the TSX bullets to the second ring and the magazine will actually hold 4 down although CZ's website says it will only hold 3 .416 Rigby cartridges down The rifle weighs 9 pounds and 6 ounces naked and is a lot of fun to shoot! It does not have a muzzle brake but the Limb Saver recoil pad keeps it from hurting too much. So far I really like it and look forward to many days of fun at the range.

Thanks! It seemed like the perfect progression from my .375 H&H and .458 Lott. IT also has about all the recoil I can handle when shooting snap shots from awkward positions. Also the .510 is the largest caliber that has a gigantic bullet selection. Anyway, it seems pretty hard to beat for game 2,000 pounds and above.

Kudos for foregoing the brake, nothing looks worse than the big bores with those muzzle brakes that look like they came off of a M1 Abrams tank. Look forward to the pics.

Congrats the .500 a2 ranks way up there in my opinion. You really SHOULD add a muzzle break as it will make it far more useful! I rather like those that look like they should be on a tank as they usually work the BEST! -Rob

High Rob. Long time no speak! I apparently don't have permission to post my pics. I tried contacting Saeed but I haven't heard anything back. What should I do about posting them?

Also, what are some good hunting loads? We worked up to 115.5 gr of Ram Shot TAC under a 570 gr tsx crimped at the second ring using Jamison brass. It showed no pressure signs and velocity averaged around 2500 fps, which was higher than I expected. Anyway, what powders/bullets/loads can you recommend?

I sure will! That's one of the nice perks when shooting a .510 cal. The cool factor! Cool

Launching 650 gr .50 BMG pulls is one of the big bennies of the .500a2. It's really a great caliber and you will really enjoy it! The tracer rounds are a blast at night!

I'll do that! I tried to post my pics but wasn't allowed to. What can I do to post them? I tried to reach Saeed but he hasn't responded yet.

Upload pics to photobucket. Then do a search for directions for uploading pics on this site. It is a PIA at first but then you get the hang of it. Where are you in MT? I'm in Stevensville and we have quite a few Big bore shooters in the Bitterroot.

I may have to try that. I was hoping I could email them to someone who has permission to post pictures and they could do it. I believe others have done that. I live in Sand Coulee about 12 miles outside of Great Falls.

That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

I shot a lot of Barnes Original 600 from RNSP over 112-115 gr of IMR 4320 in mine. 21" barrel. iirc my vel was 2380 fps. . I did not feel " under gunned "

I finally got some 500a2 pics up. It's not fancy but I wanted an "all business" big bore and that's what I got. The recoil is fairly brisk but not painful. Actually, my 458 Lott hurts more. Next on my list is a .585he or a .600ok....haven't decided yet. This 500a2 will keep me in good company until it's big brother arrives.

Did you hunt with it? If so, is it as effective as the ballistics would suggest?

I shot a few Cape buffalo with my .500a2 and the effect was DRAMATIC! The hits were visibly harder than a .416 Rigby and the buff ran off just a few feet before keeling over! Two one shot kills!-Rob

That's what I wanted to hear! Rob, I know the .600 OK is your baby. I'm looking to purchase either it or a .585 HE next, probably from AHR. Any advice on the subject? BTW, is that your YouTube (r3hawk I believe) channel that shows all these folks getting beat up by the .600 OK?

I would think so....although some people would have you believe that you could lob a 45-70 LBT at 100 fps and it would shoot through 4-5 buffs killing them all instantly! Wink .....got nothing against the .45-70 by the way.

I'm certainly no professional guide but that is what I had in mind when I gave my idea to the gunsmith. I wanted it light enough to carry, have versatility with the sight system, have first rate stopping power, manageable recoil (from standing or kneeling positions) without a muzzle brake for fast follow up shots, reliability/controlled feed and at least 3 in the magazine. It also had to be a significant upgrade in power from my .458 Lott. I think this 500a2 covers these bases pretty good. Also, good quality brass is plentiful and bullets from 300 gr hollow points to 800+ grain cast bullets and BMG bore riders. I hope it's not my last big bore but if it is, I could do a lot worse! Thanks again!

That is very close to a near perfect "working rifle", everything you need and nothing that you don't. Well done! You do realize that there are several outstanding big bore shoots here in Montana (including the Safari Rifle Challenge World Championships in Libby on the 2nd Sunday in July Big Grin ). That new beast of yours would be amongst good company!

SRshooter- I think you'll find AHR has the .600ok recipe perfected. Just call Wayne and negotiate exactly what you want! He delivers! I think you'll find the .600ok a .500a2 on STEROIDS. Nothing against the .585 but bigger is better in my book. It's very shootable!-Rob

Hey Srshooter, JCS271 and others, How about a mid-winter big bore shoot in Hamilton? Maybe the "Wooly Mammoth" event. We could go between Thanksgiving and Christmas or in January.
