Very soon my new CZ 550 Safari (hogback) in 375 H&H will be arriving. This will be my first 375 and I very excited about. clap

I originally wanted the CZ American Safari model, but the dealer I ordered it from called back and said that model is no longer available. Have any of you gents heard about CZ dropping the American Safari from its lineup?

It's not that big of a deal really, I was planning on putting either a McMillan or Brockman stock on it later any way. That and I've read here where several people on the Forum like the "Hogback" version...plus, it seems to lend itself better to using the express sights.

Anyway, by next Wednesday, I expect to be a proud owner of a new CZ 375 H&H. thumb

Sounds like your dealer wanted to sell his current stock. The American CZ is alive & well.

That's interesting, because the local gun store told me they weren't making the Lux model any more and all you could get was the American version.

I owned the exact rifle you are getting but I traded it in on another. I really liked the dimensions. It was a great shooter. The extra weight made it very manageable in the recoil dept. Don't ask me why I traded it. I found a used Lux Saf Mag in 416 Rigby that just had to come to my house.

I also "had" to buy a replacement 375 H&H which happened to be a Whitworth Safari.

If you are recoil sensitive, you may want to hold out for the American. I have one and I put a recoil pad on my shoulder when shooting from bench, but shooting from sticks it is not bad at all.

GSP7...the dealer is Ozark Guns out of North Carolina. He says he gets his firearms from distributers and other sources...what ever that means. He has a website at "ozarkguns.com"

Ozark gun guy is reputable dealer and I would trust his statement. Anyway you are not missing anything not getting American stock. Safari fitle is ment to be shot mainly with open sights. The most people griping about hog back stock never shoot their rifles without scope. If you intent to shoot your rifle without scope do not buy American stock.

Congrats on the .375, It is my primary rifle for everything except varmints, (OK, I admit I may have shot a squirrel or two with it), small deer and antelope... In fact, I find it odd that I have two. Go figure. Best advice on the stock is fire it first, decide if you like it or not, then go from there. Hogbacks have never been particularly bothersome to me, other than it looks slightly different. CZ is az strong action and the barrels are quite accurate.

My smith fitted me for the stock, and, the stock was a bit long. So, he cut it a bit more perpendicular to the barrel, that is closer to a 90 degree angle, like an american stock, put a pad on it, and bedded it.

Said it fit closely enough that I didn't need to worry about crossbolts. Mine is also a .375.

Congrats
I myself went a couple days ago and ordered mine. When my FFL called the distributer they asked to verify which I wanted, they had both, but I like the look of the hogback stock better. Maybe the distributor your FFL orders from has discontinued it from their inventory.

As soon as it arrives I am going to reinforce the stock and bed it, tune or replace the trigger, then I'll Dura-kote the metal and stock to make it almost impervious to rust and seal up the wood to keep the South Carolina humidity out.
