What is the best gun for stopping dangerous game. A double rifle or a magazine "bolt action" rifle..? A big double in caliber .600 NE or in .700 NE would be best I think or why not a 700/577 Westley Richards. But do you really get a fast 2nd shoot with a double rifle in so heavy calibers? A bolt action in calibers like .585 Nyati .577 Tyrannosaur .600 NE or .700 BMG IMPROVED with hot loads would also be fine I think. But you dont get a fast 2nd shoot with a bolt ation in big calibers. But with a little training then it can be easy do get even a fast 3nd shoot. That you dont can get with a double rifle. A double rifle in a big caliber will cost as much as a new car. Bolt action is not so expensive. What do you think guys...? //Overkill

Forget all this dwarfs calibers and rifles. The only dangerous game stopper is a double in 4 bore. You can read all about it in the new African Hunter Vol. 8, Nr. 2.

Yeah but I was thinking of what is the best stopping rifle. The double or a bolt action. And then I start with my caliber dreams... again [ 07-19-2002, 19:07: Message edited by: Overkill ]

to answer your question, a double rifle is a better charge stopper rifle in whatever big bore caliber...That is a fact of life. Anyone that would argue that fact is just pissin in the wind.

Being fully cognizant of the potential value of a near instantaneous second shot, I think it only proper to point out that the double rifle is not for everyone. A man, born and bred on bolt rifles and handles them instinctively, may not care for the feel of a double, may not have comparable time afield with one or simply may not possess the ability to "get on" game as fast with irons as he can with a scope. I think a good number of fellows fall into this category and that they may be better served by their bolt gun. [ 07-21-2002, 07:11: Message edited by: Nickudu ]

The double rifle is a specific tool for a specific job. It does that job better than anything else other than Rob's Vulcan. If the old TRW Tround firing Vulcan was of a larger caliber I'd go for that! A double rifle gives you two rounds to settle the incoming problems that want to stomp/pound/smush and grind you into the local scenery. In my opine there is nothing that comes back on target or points quicker than a double rifle. All you have to do is use one and I feel you will adopt the same view. Rusty We band of brothers!

Overkill, You can indulge in your love of big guns by combining the best features of both with the Szecsei-Fuchs double bolt. It is available in smaller calibres that people like me would shoot (if I could afford to buy one, but that is another story) as well as monsters like the .700 Nitro. The .577 T-Rex isn't listed, but if you're prepared to pay the US$ 98000 list price, I suppose they will make you one in 20mm Lahti as well!
