Gentlemen:

I am looking for Data utilizing IMR 3130 and 4064 Powders with the Speer 350 gr. bullets. I am looking for 2400-2500 ft/sec out of my 22 inch barrel.

I have checked the 416 Taylor page and find no 350 gr. data.

Hi Hansel
The powders your looking at might not be the best one for the Taylor. Try RL 15 with your 350 grain bullet. I get 2550 fps with my Taylor and 350 grain Swift A-Frames. Reloader 15 works very well for most big bores. If I only had one powder to go with for all my big bores it would be Reloader 15.
Take good care,
Dave

I have found that 4064 gives me better vel out of my taylor then RL 15. I get 2440 with a 350 gr speer or 350 x bullet. With out any presure signs with 73 grs of 4064. Put I started low and worked up one gr at a time.

This load shoots well kills very well I have decide not to try and push the 2500 foot mark.

With a resized 300 429 bullet I get 2650 with 4064. Wacks deer just fine.

I have tried 3031 also put keep coming back to 4064.

I brought five pounds of RL15 on the advice that every body here said it was the powder for the 416 Taylor. I now have to find some other use for it.

Put Iam shooting a 25inch barrel.

Hi p dog shooter,
My barrel is 24 inches and I have no trouble reaching 2500 fps with 350 grain bullets using RL 15. I've found the accuracy with it to be very good also. I didn't really have too good of luck with 3031. It would seem to want to print two shots close to each other and one an inch and three quarters away. I haven't tried the 4064 powder because of the results I've had with RL15. The RL 15 works really good in my 375 Weatherby, 416 Taylor, 470 Mbogo's and my 500 A-Square. I wish I had your 5 lb can of RL15 as mine just emptied yesterday.
Take good care,
Dave

Goes quick at 110grains at a throw, eh? Big Grin

I used up just shy of 5 lbs getting ready for my trip...I use it in both my 416 Taylor and the Mbogo.

Never tried 3031 or 4064 in my Taylor...RL 15 works well so I have just stuck with it. I did try some IMR 4895 early on, and got similar accuracy and velocity to the RL 15.

Cheers,
Canuck

I used IMR-3031 with the old Barnes Original .416/300-grain bullets to get 2700 fps in my 26" barrel of 1:14" twist, with good accuracy.

I agree, that RL-15 or Varget Extreme would be better for the 350 grainers at 2550 fps or 400 grainers at a little over 2400 fps, in my 26" barrel.

I shoot the 425 Express which is close enough to the 416 Taylor for government work, and I like 4895. I have used both IMR and H, and with the 350gr Barnes and Woodleigh start at about 72grs with a magnum primer. It gives me velocities with both bullets in the mid-24's. Kudude

I loaded up some 350 gr. Speers over 68 grains IMR 3031.
Why did I use this powder? Cause I have a bunch on hand!
I have both a .416 Rigby with a 25 inch barrel That Mr. Ricks did the Metal work on, and my .416 Taylor built on a Mark X action by Steve Zihn with a 22 inch barrel, Williams Peep Sights, a 2 Position side swing safety, rust bluing. It is light, fast handling, and scary accurate...My favorite Elk rifle.

Soon .366. Smiler Just haven't had a chance to update it. I use photoshop to stitch a banner pic together and it always takes some messing around.

Cheers,
