My 416 Taylor is about 8.5 pounds and although it lets you know it's there, it is still very managable. Just don't plan on shooting from a bench a lot. Practice off hand and kneeling once you have it zeroed. That's what I do.

I've got one and it's not bad at all in the kick dept--but of course that's always a subjective matter--not sure about turning into the Lott though, as I've asked around and no one is 100% sure what it would take($$$ and modification wise) to do this conversion--chris
I have this rifle too and it doesn't seem to kick anymore then my 375 H&H. Mine is very accurate and a fine rifle for the money. For hunting dangerous game however I prefer to use my 416 RM in safari express. If the savage was the only DG rifle available to me I wouldn't hesitate to use it in africa for DG. This is a CRF action of savage design and while not as heavy a claw as the mauser seems to always feed and function reliably. The one thing I don't like is the tang safety which feels clumsy to me.

I just got my 116 SE back from the gunsmith a couple days ago.Had it rechambered to 458 Lott but the snow just keeps coming here so have not shot it yet. Gunsmith said the magazine box was the most trouble. He used a 375H&H one for more length. Seems to feed ok.When you consider stainless barrel and action, two crossbolts, adj. muzzle brake, 3 leaf express sights, nice walnut stock and controlled round feed the gun is a real bargain for the money (I paid $500 for mine in nearly new condition).I'll post again after I fire it and let you know how it works.
