Anyone tried to find ammo lately? I'm looking for .416 Rem. softs, preferably Swift A frames. Haven't found any Swifts. Found some Nosler partitions which would work on lion for sure and buffalo in a pinch, but not my favorite. Lot's of Barnes, but I'm not a fan. Have had them divert badly.

The 400 grain Swift A-Frames are in stock here https://www.abgoutdoors.com/ca...out_of_stock=&page=1

The flat rate ammunition shipping fee is $10.95 plus your tax. Cheapest I've found.

Try Classic Firearms. I have been buying a lot at 20 dollars below retail. Federal loads Swift Aframes in that caliber.

Mike,

I agree, but I like having confidence in my ammunition. The A-Frame has performed top notch in all situations for me. Nosler's are ok on broadside shots on buffalo, but I really like quartering to (especially) or away and not a fan of Nosler's on those shots. As I said, they'd be fine on lion (I think, I've hunted, but not yet shot a lion).

Barnes, not a fan at all. Had a bullet deviate severely on a large whitetail exiting six inches forward and about the same up on an animal that weighed about 240 pounds. Have a big inventory, but not going to use them on anything bigger than a deer or anything that can bite.

Good to see you here on AR again, Mike (retreever). lavaca: I've also had good results with Federal's trophy bondeds on buffalo. With my 450-400, I have had good results with Hornady's DGX. If you watch Tim Herald's two hour video that he recently posted here on AR of hunting buffalo in Uganda with a number of well knowns from AR, I believe that those guys were using Hornady DGX. One shot does not prove or disprove that a bullet is good or bad.

I have to agree.

I've used the old X and now TSX bullets almost exclusively for the past 20+ years. Shot everything from the smallest of African antelope to brown bears, lions, leopards, numerous buffalo, Alaskan moose, and everything in between with them. Never had a single failure. In my opinion, they are the absolute best bullet on the market.

North Forks and Woodleighs have worked well in my .411 and .458 rifles. Never failed me yet.

Northforks are the best bullets made in my humble opinion. Foul way less than any Barnes bullets and are not as long as Barnes bullets. Their design with the driving bands make them much easier to get the desired velocity while staying low on the pressure charts. Plus they seem designed for big game in mind with soft points, cup point solids and true solids.
And they are accurate!

I think that they have been talking about loaded bullets. Does any major bullet manufacturer load North Forks? Or does North Fork sell boxes of fully loaded ammo?

Damn fine bullets as well. Used their solids on a couple of elephant. Very pleased with them. Might try their cup points next time out for buffalo, that is IF the new company still makes them and we can get our hands on them.

On that note, what's the latest on getting NF bullets now?

Have used Federal Premium with TBBC as well. Like them better than Nosler's but not as much as the Swift A Frames. And yes, I quit reloading a lot of years ago. Just don't have the time.

Worst case scenario you called call Superior Ammunition and have them load any bullet you want for you. The shipping is a bitch.

Even ammoman.com has been sold out for weeks. You can't even find cheap steel-cased 7.62x39 now.

I haven't had the bad experiences with the Barnes bullets, either.

No flies on the A-Frames at all.

North Forks are great, but you need to deal with specialty makers unless you load your own.

I've also used the TBBC bullets with no problems.

I have had issues finding A-frames in .416 Remington even when times were good. Much less trouble with the .416 Rigby...

That being said, since Swift is loading and selling their own ammo, you might try getting a hold of the company direct.

lavaca: You might want to call or email John LaSala at Safari Arms Ltd. I have had him load up custom loads for me many times. He loads Barnes, Berger, CEB, North Fork, Woodleigh, Swift, Nosler.
