I recently purchased a 376 Steyr Pro Hunter, I really like the short overall length and got to thinking about a big bore roughly the same size. I read the 458 jungle carbine thread and article and it reinforced the idea of a short barreled big bore. What big bore cartridge would work best with a 20" barrel?

Think like a pistol cartridge (straight case, little or no neck) and faster burning powder, the 458 Win is great. I am working on the 458 Win Jungle Carbine now and the barrel is 20 inches long. Stay away from the big necked down cases like 460 Wea, 450 Rigby/Dakota, etc.

I am going to do a .458 lott on a cz at some stage and I am going to make it my "motorbike" big bore so it will have a short barrel, I figure the extra case length of the lott will give me good ballistics similar to a long barrel length .458 win mag.

I think the 416 Taylor is the best bet for a 20" barrel, bigger bore rifle. B
