I'm not sure if this in the appropriate topic, so moderators, please feel free to move it.

Has anyone here used any ammo from the 'new' Superior Ammo company, that is, since it has moved locations (back east) and is being run by one of the family members now (not Larry anymore)?

I have ordered some 404 ammo and they said it would be awhile before they could complete the order due to the move. I was just wondering if anyone has received some yet, and if so, how did you like it?

Thank you in advance for your time.

I'd ask for a more definitive answer than 'a while'.I had used them in the past primarily for their sample packs rather than investing in multiple components that might not work out. This past summer I ordered some ammo to my specs just to have as back up for an African trip as I was getting low on powder and wasn't sure I'd find any. I spoke with Larry and said he could do it. When I returned from another trip, no ammo had arrived. I called them and they had never filled the order because they were 'doing inventory'. If I had counted on the ammo I would have been royally screwed but had enough of my own loads anyway. Take it as you will

Moving from South Dakota to 'back East' does not bode well...

Larry Barnett has retired and he sold the business to an individual, not a family member. The new owner has decided to relocate Superior Ammunition to South Carolina, last I heard. There may well be some problems associated with the transition.

I always found Larry to be reliable and his ammo exceptional. Many african PHs, gun writers and sportsmen used his Superior Ammunition for years without issue. I wish Larry the best with his retirement.

SC is good. Problems...aside from getting the equipment relocated and set up there'd be the issue of new BAFT licensing for the SC location. It all takes time... Plus $$$$$ to getter done...

I always found Larry and his products very satisfactory. He loaded a ton of different ammo for me over the years. Can't speak to the new guy; time will tell...

Yes prior to my previous post Superior was very good and convenient. Plus Larry was a pleasure to deal with, time will tell.

I've ordered ammo extensively from Superior over the years to include working up loads for some rifles. Larry was always a pleasure to deal with and his turn around times were always decent.

Though I'm sad to see Larry retire, I've had a chance to speak with the new owner, Lonnie, and I felt confident enough to order some more ammo as well as sent him another rifle for load work up. He did tell me it would take a while but I attribute that to the transition from SD to SC, as well as the difficulty in getting some components right now.

Time will tell but I'm not anticipating any problems with the new owner.

Lonnie happened to call me yesterday to update me om my order. He was Larry s manager and worked for him then bought the business when Larry became worried about new regulations. Took some time to transfer 1800 number but he said I should get my order next week - 30-378 and 505 NF CPS.

I just placed an order for a a box at SCI - they told me 4 weeks and were pretty uncertain about that timing.

I had talked to Larry previously, he was at the booth and no one told me that he had sold the business.

Anyone use Safari Arms Ltd?

I can't see where there would be many issues relocating to the GREAT STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA............... Other than simple logistics
with equipment and what have you....... We are even getting another gun manufacturer locating close by me, makes Ithaca I think and maybe
something else. Of course we have FN/Winchester there in Columbia SC as well.......

It was pretty common to see superior ammo boxes displayed in gun articles by major gun-writers and I always found their ammo to be "quite superior."

Yes, John LaSala at Safari Arms is the best! I never hunt without his ammunition.

Just an update. Received from Lonnie at Superior Arms 10 days after he called me my order of the 30-378 180gr Tsx and .505 NF cups 525 gr. The Tsx while slower than the factory load was more accurate. 3 shot group .6 inches and 4 shot group at 200 yds in 15 mph wind 2" so I m happy with the load. May even take it for caribou in the fall. Gibbs .505 I used my Tsx 525 first off essentially monopod first. Not ideal with gusts. Then tried NF CPS and grouped 4 into 3.5" but about 4" low. Not too surprising but may try 600gr since I found 600 gr Woodleigh solid shot higher at 100 yds. I won't use the CPS beyond 100-150 yds so drop won't be an issue. Downside will be expansion may not be as good. Will do some comparisons with tripod sticks and less wind.

I've always liked dealing with Superior and Larry was a real joy to deal with.

I've had a call in for awhile to the new owner and have not yet received a return call. I'm sure this is due to the move so I'll stay patient.

I really want to see them succeed but they need to continue the previous excellent customer service for this to happen.

I received my 404J ammo that I ordered yesterday. I haven't had a chance to fire any of it yet, but I did receive it and it looks like high quality on the outside. All rounds fed through my action smoothly. Now, to the range to see what's on the inside...
