I just got back from the shop and got a good look at my new searcy 470NE. It is a field grade with add-on steel grip cap. I can't wait to fire the rifle at the range. I did dry fire it with snap caps, and it does fire the left barrel with the front trigger, It also came to the shoulder like a dream, the wood is GREAT,much better than I would have expected on a field grade, Puts my Beretta 470 silverhawk 12 gauge to shame. General fit of all wood is excellent, metal work is actually better than what I would have expected, also for a field grade rifle. You can just very faintly see the monoblock joinery and the muzzle ends are nicely done. All the screws are nicely set and it has a small amount of tasteful engraving, also nicely done. It does amaze me how Butch can get the ribs, barrels, monoblock with lumps to all solder together, with just a few, very minor imperfections in the flow of the solder. Simply amazing. I guess thats why you pay from 50 to 100,000 dollars for no imperfections on finish, To those individuals who can afford the higher grades, I would suggest they do so(better PIMP factor) but for the average joe I don't think you can beat the value of the field grade(what do you guys think)although after several seasons hunting you probably could not tell the difference between one that started out as a field grade or one that started out as a deluxe(my wife pointed that out to me, makes sense though I think?) I also know that Butch's backing of his product is outstanding, meaning if something happens he will take care of it himself not some customer service dept crew. I have not alot of experience in doubles and would like the opinion of others from their experiences since entering the world of double rifles
John Paul, That double sure sounds nice. The raffle is the only way I'll ever have a chance at a nice double. Best of luck at the range. Take care, Dave
You'll like your Searcy. Butch really turns out great work for the $$! I was glad I followed his shooting recommendation the first time I fired mine--would've doubled it if I hadn't had a snap cap in the second barrel. Let us know how she shoots.
Good Hunting,

Dave good luck with the raffle, you never know what can happen. also I think that there will be more available on the used market as time goes on. You know the story, buy it, use it one time, sell it just as you have seen with all makes of doubles. I have seen a searcy with ejectors, field grade go for 6000 in the gun list and currently they have one for 7000, just have to save those pennies
