Hi Gentlemen, I recently bought a 460 weatherby deluxe (usa made). It had only had twenty rounds through it, it has a leupold vari-xIII 2.5x8 scope & came with eight boxes of factory ammo (Norma)450 gr. & 500 gr., all this for $2000. I feel like I stole it! I have shot it & was pleasantly surprised with the recoil, I was ready to get stomped, but it was more of a big push. My questions are: 1. Do all the weatherby 460's have the custom shop logo on the floorplate? 2. Do these 460's need to have the stock glass bedded for prevention of cracking? 3. Did I get a real bargain, or just do ok? Thanks For your time. Regards Mike

1. Does your 460 have a brake on it?

2. On the value question, I have only a couple valid comparison points. I saw a new or almost new one recently for $2500. About 3 years ago I saw one that must have been at least 10 years old and had been used a fair amount. It had a 1-4 leupold and some kind of barrel porting. It was $1000.

Mike... If you feel like you "stole it" id venture to say you are happy with what you got, and thats all that matters.

Mike,

The ammo alone is almost worth the ticket price.

If the US made 460s are the same as the Japanese made 460s then you rifle will have a second recoil lug mounted on the barrel and it is about an inch down from the action, which in my opinion is the best for accuracy as opposed to the more common system of having the barrel lug about where the open sight would be. The second lug is bedded in epoxy.

I have owned two 460s and both were shot extensively, especially the second rifle siince by then I had graduated to using a bag of lead shot behind the gun.

I rebedded and free floated each rifle but that was for accuracy. I never had any trouble with the stocks.

By the way, it seems that just about every accuract 460 in the world will give top accuracy with 115 grains of IMR 4350 and the 500 grain Hornady. 115 grains of Win 760 also does very well. Both loads are easy pressure and do right on 2500 f/s.

A good reduced load that was very accurate in both of my 460s was 85 grains of 4064 and the 500 Hornady. Velocity was just a tad above 2000 f/s.

I have a U.S. made .460 that I bought new about 4 years ago. I'm told that all new .460's have the "Weatherby Custom" logo engraved on the floorplate. Mine also came with the Accubrake, and it really helps in recoil reduction. Bill T.

G'day Mike,
From Memory,
The early Mark V 460's had "Weatherby Deluxe" engraved on the floor Plate, then sometime in the early German production "Weatherby Custom" was engraved into floor plate.
This signifies the action has been hand honed with damascened bolt and follower.

The Pendelton De Kicker intergral mauzzle brake was installed up untill or around the early 1990's when Weatherby changed to the K.D.F then Weatherby Accu brake screw on Muzzle brake,System.
The screw on brakes work better than the Pendelton in my opinion.
They also make the rifle easier to clean.
Something to keep an eye on is that gas cutting can cause little metal burs to form in the muzzle brake.
This happened on my 30-378 and several other's I know of.

I use the 500 grain Hornadys soft points for knocking over rabbits, cheap shooting and makes the 460 a very versatile rifle.
Probably one of the only true Mythical "ALL round" fire arms available..
My first 460 was a Japanese one which was shoot a lot with near maximum loads and never had a problem with the stock.
Mike 375 has probably put more lead down 460 tubes than any one I have heard of ,his load tips work great and his 460's shot groups like a heavy barrel varmint rifle, not what you would expect to see from a "Heavy Varmint" rifle.

You should be very happy with your purchase, sounds like you have done very well.
Regards,

Charlie
