They are shit.
I'm not talking about push feed versus controlled round feed, I don't care about that.
They are muzzle heavy.
The sights are worse than terrible.
Quality control is awful.

If you are ok with the balance and the gun you are interested in shoots ok, then you would mainly be looking at replacing the sights. Have a gunsmith look it over.

My same criticisms apply to new production model 70 Winchesters.

What's the general opinion of the Remington synthetic stocked rifle as a big bore. Strengths? Weaknesses? Thanks.

Do they still offer the walnut stock safari big bore rifle?
I have shot them and they were accurate and they handled well and they feed fine.I have never had a problem with any push feed action but have had lots of fail to feed with control round actions especially ruger and winchesters....The bolt would not close or open or jammed and failed to feed on them....Almost allways with the win.70 I would get trouble if i was in a semi hurry?I couldnt close the bolt on a ruger one time no matter what i did.All the failures were with factory ammo,You hear how great CRF actions are but no one talks about them seems like when they fail.....They really are not fool proof.......Why does the army snipers use remington actions if they are so bad?I never have understood that? Why dont they just make there own rifle?I have read recently that running/ejecting a unfired round out of a control feed will warp the Bolt claw and cause all kinds of problems because the round is to heavy if not fired..aint that some cheap crap.......How many times will you do that?I dont know if its only a winchester thing or not though...anyone ever hear this one?I would say geta remington if you like them, field test/shoot it a lot and get to know it and if you have no falures and you are confident in hunting with it ,have at it,if you find you just are not sure,Sell, trade, get something else....Iwill say this a fellow named Kurt warner use to shoot the biggest mule deer that walked with a out of the box remington 700 7mm magnum and remington 175gr.green box ammo........What ever happened to him?
