wouldn't you rather have a 416 rigby necked down to 375? Add a belt and a guy could think it was a 378 wby. [Smile]

DaggaRon, this is an early April 1 joke, right?

My recollection is that the .338 Lapua approximates the case capacity of the .338-.378 KT, which is a .338-.378 shortened 1/4" at the shoulder (?) with better beltless and angled (instead of venturi) shoulder case design. Trouble was, the .338-.378 KT barely outran the .340 Wby., so it seems to me that you might be better off pursuing some kind of .375 RUM and/or .375-.404 Jeffery?

The whole point of this exercise would be to have something to call your own, as Saeed does with the 375/404. Maybe this is silly unless you have money to burn. Maybe it is silly even if you have money to burn?

The 338 Lapua Magnum case is another of those beautiful things in it's own little pea-pickin' kind of way. No better brass, undoubtedly.

It would surely top any 375 extant, even Batman's 375/404. Load it to the same velocities. Just a little bit classier, based on the 416 Rigby rather than the 404 Jeffery. [Wink]

Since I already play with rifles in
375-338
375 H&H
375 Wby
375 RUM
378 Wby
maybe I don't really need a true wildcat 375 of my own design on that sweet 338 Lapua case.

Maybe I will just stick with the 3 rifle battery based on the 416 Rigby case:

338 Lapua: necked down and shortened
416 Rigby: the standard for perfection
470 Mbogo: necked up, blown out, and lengthened

That is a pretty good battery on my pet 416 Rigby case head: small bore, medium, and big. Dik dik to pachyderm, all bases covered, in a most elegant way.

338 lapua is nuttin but a stronger web 416 rigby.. right? So, this would be pretty close to Saeed 375, or a 375 ultra...

btw, did I tell you guys about the guy with the new 300 RUM? Was at carter's saturday... Heard BANG! and watermelon-thump... I turned around, and an old guy had laid up on one like a tripple duece... and needed 3 stitches

Jeffe,
Yep, the 338 Lapua is to the 416 Rigby as the 408 Chey Tac is to the 505 Gibbs. Beefier brass in the web of the head. However the 338 Lapua is shortened vs. the Rigby.

I suppose the 375 RUM is OK, but it does have the 0.010" rebate per side on the rim. The "375/338 Lapua" or the 375/404 Saeed are better cases therefore.

Speaking of balloon head cases, glad the old guy only needed 3 stitches! [Eek!]

The watermelon thump sound can sure spoil the fun. That is pitiful when it happens to anyone. [Frown] My brow is unscarred, knock wood.

Arild (460wby) has the 375 LapMag and the 458 LapMag listed in his cartridge collection.
