Pretty sure I know the answer to this question, but you can use .375 H&H ammo in a .375 Ackley Improved, correct? Any issues in doing so? Thanks. Mike

The only thing I have heard, and done with my 98 in the Ackley version is lose about 100fps velocity. At 100 yards it shot about an inch higher. BTW; my Buffalo mount will be done in a week. I need to thank you again for letting me know about that end of season deal from CMS. It was the dream of a lifetime come true. Rich DRSS

Thanks. I look forward to seeing a picture of the mount. Buffalo hunting is more addictive than crack (and only slightly less addictive than elephant hunting). Mike

Mike You are going to accelerate/exacerbate the stretching ahead of the belt firing a standard round in the AI chamber. Now if this is an emergency situation like your ammo didn't arrive with the rifle, then who cares about the brass. If you have an AI chamber and are just fire forming, again, it will shorten the useful life of the brass. Every AI I've dealt with, it was better to enlarge the neck to the next bigger caliber and size back down to headspace on the temporary shoulder so created. There is still some stretching at the rear (and shortening overall) but not as much as just lettin' 'er rip.

If the AI chamber is cut correctly with the case set to headspace on the shoulder instead of the belt. If the case is set to headspace on the belt it will stretch the hell out of the case like NFMike says. When I used to play with AIs I used to load my fire forming loads with the bullets jammed into the lands and the headspace set on the datum line of the shoulder. NFMike, I always seat the bullet out far enough to have to "jam" it into the lands about .020". Works for my 375AI. regards, Rich DRSS
