Stupid Scope Question? Login/Join

This is a question regarding looks/asthetics. Please don't ban me from the forum for asking this question . I have a Marlin 1895 Guide Gun .45-70 in stainless steel. I want to put an AO Lever Scout Scope Mount and Leupold M8 scout scope on it (http://www.ashleyoutdoors.com). The AO scope mount is only available in black. Because the mount is black (not available in stainless) it doesn't match the gun. Would you consider this an issue? If not what scope and rings would you use? Silver scope and rings or black scope and rings? Thanks for humoring me on this one. I just love the look of the gun and don't want to make it look like an abortion.
If anyone has better recommendations on mounts/sights I would like to hear those as well. I have considerd the peep sight because I have one on my M1894 Winny and it works great. I'd really like to go with a scope setup on this one though. Thanks!!

When you ask about a stainless lever gun on this forumn, you never know what you'll get for a response!

I have personally mixed ss, silver, blued and black barrels, mounts, rings and scopes on my contender, and personally, I have no problem mixing the colors. It really comes down to what you like. With a synthetic stock, I kinda like the look of black accents in the scope and/or mount. With a wood stock it may not match as well. You could always have the black mount and rings bead blasted to give a matte aluminum finish, or remove the color and polish them.

I personally have also mixed ss/blue/matte and have liked the results from all. It really is a personal preference. As I see it you have three options. Use the matte base with a stainless finish scout scope, use the matte base with a matte finish scout scope, or hold off and start pestering AO for a SS finished base. I wrote them about just such an item last year and they said "not at this time" but as more and more people want them, they will listen. All that is needed is a clear coat finish on the aluminum base instead of a matte black finish (I think the AO base is an aluminum alloy, but not sure). Really not that big a deal if they think they can sell enough.

You might find that "to much silver" is not such a good look, Just like to much mission brown in Aussie suburban houses. The matte I reckon complements silver barrels etc.

Reagrds PC.

first of all there is no such thing as a stupid question. if we all thought our questions were stupid no one would learn anything.
stainless/ stainless vs stainless/black. a matter of taste. I have yet to see an ugly gun either way. but stainless with wood...that is beautiful to me

If you are using a matte finish scope, probably matte finish rings and bases would be the way to go, unless you can find stainless bases. One thing I try to do is match the rings with the scope to avoid the zebra look.
I will also say that the only stupid question is one that is not asked. Any and all questions are welcomed here.
