Anyone got any experience with converting a CZ 550 in .460 Weatherby to a .416 Rigby? What would be necessary? The .460 has a head diameter of .583 and the Rigby has one of .586. Would the bolt face require modification? Feeding should be about the same, right? Thanks for the help.

No experience in doing it but, considering that Roy Weatherby had few original ideas of his own, the .460 Weatherby is basically the 416 Rigby with a belt on it, necked up tp .458 and radiused shoulders. You would, of course have to change barrels but the bolt face shouldn't need any alteration nor should the feed rails. Whn 416 Rigby boxer primed cases weren't available, Fred Huntington (RCBS) turned the belts off 460 Weatherby cases and reformed them in 416 Rigby dies. Have a go at it!

CZ makes a .460Wby? Or is that a .458WM/Lott that was rechambered/rebored/rebarreled?

Why not buy a CZ .416 Rigby and sell off the one in .460Wby?

George

Did you mean a 416 Rigby to a 460 WBY? CZ does not chamber any Bee loads last I looked!

It started off as a .458 Lott, which I then rechambered to .460 Weatherby. You think selling it and buying a .416 Rigby would be the cheapest way to go? Thanks for the help everyone.

I think you should get into handloading regardless of which of the two cartridges you end up with.

Factory ammunition for the .460Wby and .416 Rigby is pricey.

I think you're better off selling the .460, and getting into a new rifle.

If you really want the 416 rigby, It would probably be cheaper to sell that rifle and buy a 416 in the CZ rifle.
Here's another idea though: why not just rebarrel to a 416 weatherby?
I would think that a 460 wby in a CZ rifle would be able to be sold for more than it costs new in the original caliber. I'm not sure on that last statement though.
Just some suggestions. Take them or leave them.
