Hog KillerPictures of my Remington 30S/Lott
I finally got some digital pictures of my Remington 30S, 458 Lott. It has a Lyman 48 receiver sight, NECG front sight and barrel band. The stripper clip feed guide was milled off as it was not needed and to make it easier to reload. I added a timney trigger to have a clean single stage pull instead of the original two stage. This is the original factory stock, checkering was recut, ebony inlay to cover where the front sling stud was located and a good recoil pad to replace the checkered steel buttplate. Weight empty is 9# 12 oz.

GeorgeSHK,
Is that dogleg bolt handle standard on a 30S
George

Hog KillerGeorgeS,
Yes, that is the original bolt handle. It is the same as the 1917 Enfield, the predecessor to the 30S. Remington built the Model 30 from 1926 to 1940.

Just Some GuyHas it been set up to cock on opening, or does it still cock on closing like the original Pattern 14/1917?

Hog KillerJSG,
The early rifles (Mod30) were like the 1917, cock on close, Remington changed them to cock on openning. Mine is the later production style (May, 1938).

MacD37I handled that rifle at Dallas, and it is a peach! I also watched Hogkiller work that dogleg, and he is quick! Al in all that is a real working rifle for Buffalo!

Hog KillerMacD37,
Thanks.

The rifle turned out just like I wanted, a useable working piece. One thing about the rear sight, I removed the aperture, so that it is a ghost ring sight. It is very quick to pick up the front sight and does not block your view like express or a regular rear sight will, covering half of what you are looking at.

PfeiferHogkiller,
Nice M30S...I have a 1934 vintage Model 30A in .30 Rem. I have PME bottom metal, 3-pos safety, extractor, follower, etc for a 416 Rigby family conversion and someday will convert it (or another) to .470 Mbogo... at least that is the present plan. Mine is missing the Lyman 48 sight. I was at a gunshow yesterday and had two 48R sights in my hand ($100 - $125 ea.)! My rifle was cut at the factory for the early 48R and has the correct matching front sight for the 48R as well. Thanks for the inspiration :-)

Frank MartinezThat rifle truly is a sweet handling monster killer. Sorry I mis-identified it as a cz in the Dallas threads over on the Africa line. I really enjoy the dogleg for fast hadling without having to search for the bolt handle.

Hog KillerYeah, Frank I sorry too.

A CZ, indeed. I guess that to you Double Gun Shooter Society guys, one bolt gun looks like another.
