I picked up a 375 Ruger Alaskan at the store the other day.I like it but feel a 416 ruger needs a 22" barrel.I want to build one on a old Ruger action but cant find a good enough fiberglass stock to hold it.I think the 416 ruger in the old model with Ruger sites would be awesome.I like the old safety a m,illion times better than the new one.It shoots like a fine double then on the old model.I think the new safety is like opend a too little car door on the wrong side.I have had lots of problems getting it off quickly.

That be me..I have a good Mauser action customized, a Lothar Walthar barrel with sights, M-70 safty, the works for sale in 416/375 Ruger...

I have not tested it for feeding but that should be simple at worst, I just don't have and ammo or brass on hand to test it..

I am not sure what custom work I have had done to it or what has been completed, so depending on that I will charge $1200 to about $1800.

I am going to make a 404/375 Ruger next.

I saw and article in the recent Rifle or Handloader magazine with a picture of one Serengeti Rifles built. Also had pics of the ammo. Stubby little buggers they are.

That sounds sweet! Cool

I've been a huge fan of the 416Taylor and was building one based on a Ruger when the 375Ruger came out. At this point, I've ditched those plans and am looking forward to the release of a factory 416Ruger. Smiler

As to the M77 tang safety. Doesn't both Mcmillan and Brown offer stocks for it? They should hold up well to a 416R. For that matter, one done up to duplicate the appearance of the older wood stocked 458WM tang safety would be unique and look classy.

Dear Vapodog:

From whom did you order your 416 Ruger dies and reamer? I, like GaryVA, may dump my 416 Taylor project for the 416 Ruger idea or a 416 Newton using Jamison brass.

Nevertheless, I called Hornady last week, and they said that they had no plans to introduce a 416 Ruger. We'll see.

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis

I ordered the reamer from PTG with a floating pilot and some (.375) freebore.

RE: the 416 Ruger:.....it's possible that Hornady is not driving the show here....that Ruger is and I'd ask them if they plan on one.

I assure you that I have no inside information about this....I'm building it because it makes more sense than the 416 Taylor and no other reason.

It's possible that Hornady is cutting deals with Ruger about a 416 but we'll never know unless they announce it.....personally, if there is to be an "oncore" to the .375, I'd be guessing a .300 or .338 instead of a 416!

Also, I ordered the dies from Hornady for the "416 Ruger" and there was no reaction.....like wait a few months and it'll be standard.....The order was accepted in the manner any wildcat dies would have been received.

Dear Vapodog:

Thanks.

As an addendum, when I spoke to Hornady last week I was informed that a less than .375 caliber on the Ruger case was in the works, but not finalized.

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis

Assuming the .375 Ruger is matching and even exceeding their expectations for sales, it's hard to imagine they would not come out with an "oncore"

It's my hope thay bring out everything from 7MM to .458 on this case.....as it's what the standard length magnums should have been all along!
